Jericho Stewardship Group Work Party: Invasive species removal and native species planting

The Jericho Stewardship Group will be hosting our monthly work party where we will be removing invasive species and planting native shrubs in the park!

Come join us in helping make sure that Jericho Beach Park remains a healthy ecosystem for Vancouver!

Youth Educator Volunteer

Description: Volunteer with the BC Crisis Centre! Be a part of a dynamic team making a difference in the lives of hundreds of youth in the Lower Mainland. Youth Educator Volunteers facilitate a 70 to 90-minute workshop for youth in grades 6 to 12 called Self-Care for Mental Health. Sessions may be presented in-person at elementary or high schools and youth-serving agencies in Vancouver, Burnaby, and North Vancouver, or virtually for schools outside of these areas. Youth wellness workshops provide valuable resources for youth, encourage peer support, and help to reduce stigma relating to mental health and suicide by creating awareness and teaching mindful tools. Volunteer commitment: 2 half-days per month for 1.5 years (3 school semesters) OR a minimum of 45 delivered workshops. Volunteer Requirements: - Strong desire to work with youth - Interest in / personal connection to the topic of mental health and suicide prevention - Availability for all four live training sessions 10am-4pm on the following dates: May 4, May 25, June 1 and September 8 (at the Crisis Centre, 763 East Broadway, Vancouver). - 4-6 hours of independent learning (online and self-paced) - Completion of two half-days workshops: safeTALK & Skillfully Responding to Distress (flexible dates) - Daytime availability for workshop delivery (school hours) - two outings per month required - Willingness to travel throughout Vancouver, Burnaby and the North Shore - Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (upon acceptance of the role) - Comfort with public speaking and group facilitation is an asset What’s in it for You? - Comprehensive training and on-going support - Opportunity to work interactively with youth in an educational capacity - Real-world experience to enrich your public speaking and group facilitation skills - Join the community of compassionate Crisis Centre’s volunteers - Make a difference: build hope and resiliency among youth - Reference letters (subject to completion of basic commitment) - Free access to our Wellness Webinars, and a discounted registration for the 2-day ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training). Rain Walk Volunteer

Description: The support of our incredible volunteers is integral to the work we do at InspireHealth. InspireHealth's 8th annual Rain Walk is on March 9th 2024 at our three locations in Vancouver, Victoria, and Kelowna. We are currently seeking volunteers to support all stages of Rain Walk, from planning to the day of, to post event. Pre-event roles include decoration, assembling bags, and picking up items. The day-of event support roles can include running a table, check-in, and being a route marshal. Post-event roles may include take down, writing thank you cards, and transporting items back to the office. As we come together, we hope to raise funds to provide essential supportive care services for those living with cancer. Cancer touches us all. Every 20 minutes, someone in British Columbia is diagnosed with cancer. No matter where you are on your cancer journey, we are here for you. InspireHealth is the only place in B.C. that patients can receive free, comprehensive supportive cancer care services, for any type of cancer, at any stage, and at any time after diagnosis, through treatment and beyond.  Your generosity will provide better health and recovery options for cancer patients in need across British Columbia. Volunteers for the Taekwondo Canada- Canada Open. February 8, 9 and 10

Description: We are looking for volunteers to help with the Taekwondo Canada Open happening from February Wednesday February 7 to Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Canada Plan in Vancouver BC. This event will feature over 10 countries represented by athletes from age 9 to 90.  Two disciplines will be included: Poomsae and Kyorugi. This is a big event and there is a lot to do. Some specific tasks are Greeting at the entrance, people helping with the flow of the event, helping the judges and operations of the on court competition. We are also happy to have people that can be present and help with a variety of tasks. All tasks will be fully explained and any skills needed with be taught.   The time periods for which we are looking to volunteers are: Wednesday 8 pm to 10pm - Set Up Thursday and Friday 8:30 am and 8:30 pm. There is no need for anyone to stay the full 12 hours. we will be organizing shifts are happy with any time you can give. Volunteers will receive a meal and a t-shirt. If this experience is going to wards any needed educational volunteer hours we are happy to sign. ( Example. Places That Matter Community Fair Event Volunteer - Multiple Roles

Description: Come celebrate Heritage Week at the Places that Matter Community Fair. Bigger than ever, the focus will be on our community partners in a free, family-friendly fair-style event. This day-time event will take place 11am - 3pm on Sunday, February 25th and will be open to the general public. Community organizations and PTM sites will set up tables to share information and stories that connect us to the places that matter in our communities. We are seeking volunteers (age 16+) to assist in a variety of roles and two time options. The roles available are: Greeting, information table, & accept donations Refreshment table (including a cotton candy & popcorn machine) Assist community partners at their tables, with the scavenger hunt & craft activities NEW ROLE: Social media content assistant The time options to sign up for are: 9:30am - 1pm (assisting with set-up) 12:30pm - 4pm (assisting with take-down) To sign-up, please complete the online form or email Caroline.
