Opportunity Description:

  On August 12th – 13th, 2017, Stanley Park Ecology Society is joining forces with a host of organizations to explore the incredible biodiversity of Stanley Park.   The Stanley Park BioBlitz is part of BioBlitz Canada 150, a national effort by the Canadian Wildlife Federation with support from the Department of Canadian Heritage. The initiative is bringing 35 Bio Blitzes to communities across Canada to explore our natural diversity, from the giants of the forest to the tiniest of insects. Within just 24 hours, we will survey intertidal areas, plants, insects, birds, small mammals and more!   Members of the public will have the opportunity to explore, identify and log every species they find, uploading their observations to the iNaturalist database ensuring their findings are part of the largest BioBlitz Canada has ever seen.   We are seeking an IT Volunteer to support the running of the BioBlitz in Stanley Park, to ensure the technical side of the survey runs smoothly and that participants can connect with the digital aspect of the project.   Time commitment 1pm – 7pm on Saturday August 12th 2pm – 5pm on Sunday August 13th Training to be scheduled in for the week beginning Monday July 31st, to last approximately 4 hours     Duties Ensuring the reliability of a remote internet connection (Managed Rapid Response Kit) and problem solving any issues that arise Supporting the iNaturalist uploads at the festival site as well as the Stanley Park Nature House Supporting a live Facebook video stream of the event   Requirements / Preferences Competent in remote internet connectivity (experience using a MRRK) Familiar with live video streaming Able to support members of the public to upload images and information to the iNaturalist app and website 18 years of age or older   Benefits Be part of one of the largest biological counts Canada has ever seen Experience supporting the technological running of a large-scaled outdoor event Work as part of a team of passionate and committed volunteers and staff     Application Procedure Please contact Tobias Jones (Volunteer Coordinator) if you are interested in this opportunity.
