Opportunity Description:

Sierra Club BC, the oldest wilderness conservation non-profit in BC, is seeking volunteers for the spring and summer of 2018. We are adding to our existing team of volunteers and rolling out a concentrated campaign to protect what’s left of old-growth rainforest on Vancouver Island. Currently, the ancient rainforest of Vancouver Island is being clearcut at a rate of two soccer fields per hour, with only 10% of the biggest trees still remaining. Besides being an ecological disaster, the loss of these giant trees is also the loss of our best allies against climate change, at a time when we need them most!

In order to turn things around, we are asking people to send letters to the BC government and demand aggressive action to end the rampant cutting. We have an ambitious goal: 10,000 letters sent by the end of June, and we need help reaching that goal!

Our volunteer teams will be hitting the streets of Vancouver to talk to Vancouverites and add their signatures to our pre-written letter.
The volunteer commitment is 3 hours per week. It’s a fun and rewarding three hours that creates a far-reaching impact.

In addition to their weekly commitment, volunteers will also be invited to (as they wish):
– Collaborate with Sierra Club BC leaders to continually improve the campaign
– Explore team leadership
– Take part in creative photo/video projects surrounding the campaign
– Attend SCBC events
– Have a blast

If you’re looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity or you’re passionate about protecting endangered BC rainforest and fighting climate change, please get in touch with Outreach Coordinator, Brynne Morrice, at brynne@sierraclub.bc.ca.
