Providence Health Care – St. Vincent’s Langara site (Early Breakfast Volunteer)

This position involves volunteers helping with a weekly breakfast program at a long term care facility by portering wheelchair bound elders to and from the activity space. Volunteers under the direction of a Rehab Assistant, will help with the set up and take down of the program, socializing with residents and generally assist the residents with breakfast related tasks such as serving coffee and tea, peeling eggs and fruit, and offering toast. The program runs from 8 am – 9:30 am and is great role for early risers to do their volunteering right at the start of the day.

Role requirements:
-Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 (7 days post dose 2)
-Able to assist elders who have physical and/or cognitive challenges.
-Physically capable of pushing elders in wheelchairs and carrying out physical tasks as required.
-Able to communicate well in verbal and written English.
-Friendly, reliable, patient and respectful.
-Able to follow direction and enjoy teamwork.
-Willingness to listen, learn and develop effective ways to interact with elders.
-Sincere interest in the social needs elders.
-Want to have fun!
