Position Overview   The Outreach Events Team will support the Outreach and Community Engagement team to raise awareness for the Walk for Reconciliation event in September 2017 at community events and festivals across the Greater Vancouver Area, and increase the engagement of individuals and communities in Reconciliation Canada initiatives and programs. The volunteers will engage members of the public in the renewal of relationships among Indigenous peoples and all Canadians, furthering the vision of Reconciliation Canada.   Born from the vision of Chief Dr. Robert Joseph, Gwawaenuk Elder, Reconciliation Canada is a charitable nonpartisan, national initiative that promotes reconciliation by engaging Canadians from every part of society in open and honest dialogue and transformative experiences that revitalize relationships among Indigenous peoples and all Canadians.   Volunteer for one or more of the following events:   Event: Rising Eagle, Church and First Nations Reconciliation Concert – Friday, July 7th Location: Lafarge Lake Amphitheatre, Coquitlam Shift Time: 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm (Training time: 6:30 pm – 7:00 pm) Volunteer Coordinator: Kyla Hackett (Outreach Manager) * Event: Khatsahlano Street Party – Saturday, July 8th Location: West 4th Ave., Vancouver I Shift Time: 10:30 am – 4:30 pm (Training time: 10:30 am – 11:00 am) II Shift Time: 3:45 pm – 9:00 pm (Training time: 3:45pm – 4:15pm) Volunteer Coordinator: Kyla Hackett (Outreach Manager) * Event: Folk Festival – Friday July 15th, 2017 Location: Jericho Beach, Vancouver· Shift time: (exact time TBD) Volunteer Coordinator: Charlene Seward (Community Engagement Manager), Kyla Hackett (Outreach Manager), Karly Adair (Outreach Assistant) *note: for this event, you will receive a free full day pass for the day you volunteer, which you can use to check out the festival once your shift ends or before you begin!     Deliverables & Duties Raise awareness of the Walk for Reconciliation event in September, 2017 and Reconciliation Canada initiatives and programs by staffing Reconciliation Canada booths at community events and festivals across the Greater Vancouver Area Proactively engage community members in the information and activities taking place at the Reconciliation Canada booth Keep well informed on changes and updates to Reconciliation Canada initiatives and reconciliation key messaging Role model reconciliation messaging and practices at events Skills & Experience Enthusiastic and outgoing personality to support working with a wide variety of people Experience working in a customer service environment Outgoing and comfortable engaging members of the public in conversations about Reconciliation Canada Professional verbal communication skills Passion, integrity, and energy!     Benefits & Recognition Personally contribute to the reconciliation process through a direct impact on public participation in Reconciliation Canada initiatives Meet and work with like-minded people on a common goal of importance to our nation Build on communication and outreach skills Inspire positive change and make a difference to the future of Canada To apply, please email volunteer@reconciliationcanada.ca with your preferred shift time!
