Shifts are 7:30am- 2:30pm WEEKDAYS ONLY

 

The KidSafe Project Society:
KidSafe offers programming to at-risk children from 6 inner city elementary schools in east Vancouver.  KidSafe provides safe havens for students when schools are traditionally closed and provides nutritious meals and snacks as well as quality fun-filled programs, at no charge to the families.

 

Objectives of the Volunteer Position:

To support the KidSafe Food Coordinator prepare breakfast, lunch and snack for up to 80 participants during KidSafe Break program days. Shifts are 7:30am-2:30pm
To interact with children during the program serving breakfast and lunch while teaching healthy nutrition and eating habits.
Along with staff, ensure a safe and friendly atmosphere for all children.

Tasks:
Help KidSafe’s Food Coordinator prepare, cook, clean and serve a full day of nutritious meals and snacks to the children in our programs!

 

Once your volunteering duties are finished, KidSafe can offer you a Volunteering Reference & Evaluation which would be a great asset to any University Program, Employment or Apprenticeship applications. In addition, we will also be throwing a Volunteer Appreciation Party once all programs are finished for all volunteers, plus you have the opportunity to participate in the activities and attend field trips for free.
Qualifications:

Volunteer must be 15 years of age or older
Understanding of nutrition and basic food preparation
Experience in a cooking environment
Food Safe certificate is an asset
Enjoy working with children and have a high degree of energy.
To be accepting of differences.
Strong English (written & verbal) is required.
To be patient and work as a team member.
Agreement to a criminal record check and abide by set rules and regulations concerning appropriate behaviour and legal issues when working with children.
