We are Looking for Volunteers! – High School Student Volunteer Speakers

The Event

The Education and Career Fair (ECF) is B.C.’s Largest Career Development Fair. This includes secondary students planning for higher education and exploring career options; young adults looking to transfer their work experience & skills to a different industry; and new immigrants seeking employment and further training to settle in Canada.

Since 1996, the ECF has worked hard in the aim of facilitating connections that drive career decisions and inspire growth for individuals and organizations in an evolving economy and job market. Over the years, they have helped students and young adults plan their education and career journey by connecting them with valuable tools and contacts.  ECF has attracted over 12,000 attendees across all fairs in British Columbia, and last year, they have expanded their scope to launch a series of fairs is Ontario as well.  ECF is today proud to be recognized by Business in Vancouver as “Top Trade Shows in the Lower Mainland”.

The Opportunity

We are looking for 2-4 volunteer high-school students to participate in an online web series as speakers to enhance students’ thought processes on different career pathways, as well as provide tools on how to best transition into post-secondary life.

We are requesting that each student present a 5 to 10 minute presentation on some of the possible topics below, but not limited to:

My experience using myblueprint
How I am saving to pay for tuition
How I decided my future career pathway and tips
Tips on school/work life balance

* If the student is younger than 18 years of age, we will provide applicable documentation so the student’s primary caregiver can give consent*

The Timeline

The overall design of each event is set as a short, pre-recorded presentation from an industry professional, a post-secondary institution and a current high school student.  Each event is tailored to approximately 45 minutes in length (30 minutes pre-recorded content and 15 minutes interactive live component).  The web series is scheduled to start at the beginning of June 2022. Therefore, speaker recordings would take place during the second week of May 2022 and each speaker may present up to 10 minutes. The total time commitment will be approximately 5 hours, including preparation, presentations and the live day
