Opportunity Description:

Share your love of reading and make a big difference in a child’s life! Our dedicated volunteer tutors help children who struggle with reading. The work is fun and very rewarding! For our students, these are invaluable opportunities to practice reading in an environment where it is ok to take risks, make mistakes and learn at their own pace. Many of our students would not receive extra help without the assistance of ONE TO ONE tutors. We are looking for many volunteer tutors for the 2017-2018 school year for elementary schools in Vancouver, North Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Richmond and Coquitlam. Tutors read once a week, either in the mornings (9am-12pm) or the afternoons (1pm-3pm), at a specific school. You will be developing a relationship with the students you tutor, and so your ability to commit to the agreed upon schedule is appreciated. We will work with you to find the best schedule and location. You must be able to commit to volunteering for the duration of a school year, generally from October to mid-June. Volunteers must be very comfortable and proficient speaking and reading English and/or French. You must be 18 to apply. Volunteers must be able to commit to one shift per week until June. Shifts are 9am-12pm or 1pm-3pm at specific schools. (Exceptions made for illness and vacation of course!) Experience with children is definitely helpful. Volunteers must complete a criminal record check. Volunteers must attend a 3-hour training session for new volunteers. More information on dates/locations will be posted on our website in early September. We will provide you with training and ongoing support. Register now by visiting http://www.one-to-one.ca/volunteer/.
