Indian Summer Arts Society (ISAS) is a Vancouver-based not-for-profit secular arts organization founded in 2011. We are dedicated to promoting, showcasing and building public awareness of artists of South Asian origin in the performing, visual, literary, culinary, and folk arts and fostering dialogue between Canada and South Asia, and within communities in Canada.
This summer delve into a world of art, music, films, dance, food, and much more with Indian Summer Festival!
Indian Summer Festival is back with its ninth edition, featuring Grammy-winning musicians, Oscar-nominated filmmakers, Indigenous designers, Booker prize nominated novelists, and many other inter-disciplinary artists. We are now recruiting volunteers for the 2019 Indian Summer festival season! Time commitment for volunteers is a minimum of 12 hours during the festival (July 4-14) in addition to mandatory attendance at one training session.
PAUSE is Indian Summer Festival’s outdoor programming hub, a unique architectural installation conceptualized to bring people together with an innovative use of public space. Against a spectacular view of the North Shore mountains and downtown Vancouver, PAUSE is situated at the site of the village of sən̓aʔqʷ (pronounced Senakw), currently known as Vanier Park. The PAUSE Pavilion features free events daily throughout Indian Summer Festival, including all-star performances, talks and dialogues, food, workshops, and visual art, featuring a wide range of local and international artists. PAUSE programming emphasizes collaborations and conversations between South Asian and Indigenous artists.
In exchange for volunteering with the festival, you will be provided with an opportunity to connect with new individuals hailing from diverse backgrounds, develop leadership, communication and customer service skills, expand your professional network, attend an appreciation party with everyone who volunteered, and eminently, participate in multi-disciplinary events that encourage unimpeded radical discourses in order to have a positive impact in our community. In addition, if you show up to your shifts and work hard you may request a reference letter.
Volunteers contribute to ISF in a number of roles including:
- Deliveries/Pick Up
- Ushering, Greeting and Ticket Taking
- Event Set-up and Clean-up
- Selling Books and CDs
- Distributing Posters and Other Promotional Materials
During the festival, volunteers are the face representing Indian Summer Festival, which is why volunteers must be:
- Respectful and understanding to all people
- Reliable, responsible and professional
- Work both independently and as part of a team
- Enthusiastic and positive
