Opportunity Description:

Miss working with kids but hate grading papers? Then we’ve got the volunteer opportunity for you! The Fraser River Discovery Centre is looking for volunteers to help with our River School programs. These workshops are 90-minutes of engaging, interactive, hands-on activities all about the industry, culture and environment of the living and working Fraser River. Do water quality testing on the Fraser River! Examine life-size replicas of Indigenous fishing tools! See if you can survive the sturgeon life cycle game!

River School runs Wednesday-Friday year-round, and groups can either book from 10:00-11:30 or 12:30-2:00. While we work with groups aged k-9, the majority of our groups are in the grades 2-5 range. As a volunteer, you’ll lead activities for no more than 15 children at a time.

You’ll also become part of our fabulous volunteer community! With monthly volunteer meetings (complete with snacks), volunteer shifts in our public programming (such as our annual River Festival or monthly Super Saturdays), outreach events in the community, and other training or enrichment opportunities throughout the year, there is no shortage of things to do with the Centre!

We have no monthly requirement of volunteer hours, however, we are looking for volunteers who can help somewhat regularly with the River School programs. The more you are able to volunteer, the more confident you’ll be with our programs. This makes the experience better for you, as well as the visiting groups.

So, are you ready to join the Fraser River Discovery Centre’s team? You can find out more information about our volunteer program on our website, , or by emailing us at .

We hope to hear from you soon!
