Opportunity Description:

 

The Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association (DVBIA) is seeking energetic and enthusiastic volunteers to assist in collecting data and information about public spaces in downtown Vancouver.

Surveying happens in July and August and will consist of nine 4 or 5 hour shifts (36-45 hours total) in different “Perches”.

The DVBIA supports, promotes and represents the shared interests of 7,000 businesses and property owners in the central 90-block area of Vancouver’s downtown core. Beyond business, a major focus for the organization is placemaking, which is the study of human behavior and how to create places for people. Our “Perch” program, created in 2013, provides Monday-Friday programming and opportunities for activations in downtown public spaces.

We are seeking two volunteers who enjoy talking to the public and interested in placemaking and public spaces. These two volunteers will conduct surveys with members of the public and ask them how they feel in spaces, and what they would like to see more or less of in the public spaces. The role also includes data entry on Microsoft Excel in our office.

A friendly attitude and strong communication skills are ideal for this role.

This role also includes surveying at our Summer Movie Night series, also held in July and August. The role is exactly the same, except for the location of surveying. Summer Movie Nights are located at the šxʷƛ̓exən Xwtl’a7shn Square, which is the north plaza located outside of the Vancouver Art Gallery.
