Share your love of reading and make a big difference in a child’s life! Our dedicated volunteers tutor children who struggle with reading. The work is fun and very rewarding! For our students, these are invaluable opportunities to practice reading and writing in an environment where it is okay to take risks, make mistakes and learn at their own pace. Many of our students would not receive extra help without the assistance of ONE TO ONE tutors. Volunteers must be very comfortable and proficient speaking and reading English. Experience with children is definitely helpful. We are looking for both English and French tutors. We provide thorough training and ongoing support to all our volunteer tutors. This is a tremendous opportunity to truly make a difference in a child’s confidence and chance of succeeding academically and in life. You must be able to commit to volunteering for the duration of a school year, generally from October-June. Tutors read once a week, either in the mornings or afternoons, at a specific school. You will be developing a relationship with the students you tutor, and so your ability to commit to the agreed upon schedule is appreciated. We will work with you to find the best schedule and location for your needs. A criminal record check is required before tutors are placed in schools. The process is free of charge if completed online. To learn more about our program, submit an application and sign up for a training session, visit www.one-to-one.ca. We look forward to meeting you!
