Opportunity Description:

The Aquafit for All Assosiation (AFA) is currently looking for a volunteer coordinator to help organize and coordinate the volunteers involved with the AquaVision program. AquaVision is an adapted aquatic exercise program directed towards individuals with visual impairments. It runs twice a month on Saturday aftternoons.

In this role, you will be required to check in monthly at board meetings, and spend a maximum of 2-3 hours per week completing volunteer recruitment and administrative tasks, as well as attending sessions to coordinate volunteers.

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Recruiting volunteers through various channels, including University job listings, online portals, in-person outreach, and other methods as necessary
  • Researching new methods to reach potential volunteers
  • Helping to screen, interview, and qualify new volunteers for the program
  • Organizing volunteer shifts for the AquaVision program, with new programs to come
  • Attending AquaVision sessions to coordinate volunteers and sign-in
  • Other tasks as required to organize the volunteers for AquaVision and other programs

Qualifications for the role include:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Administrative skills, ability to maintain records and produce clear written reports
  • Empathy and ability to work with a diverse range of people
  • Ability to deal with informative in confidential and sensitive manner
  • Experience managing or coordinating projects or volunteers a plus

This volunteer position is a great opportunity to gain experience in managing a team. You will have chances to work with different people, and will be fully supported by our board as you work to lead your team to success. There will also be opportunity to give back to the community through our fundraising activities, as well as training around physical health and aid. The role will have on-the-job training. Board members will be available to support you.
