Opportunity Description:

Learning Buddies Network is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping struggling young children at inner-city elementary schools to develop essential literacy and math skills. Our goal is to improve self-esteem and ignite a passion for learning! We are currently looking for volunteer tutors for our January 2016 Reading Buddies and Math Buddies programs. Our reading and math tutoring programs run once a week, after school, at elementary schools across Metro Vancouver. Each tutoring session involves 10-12 pairs of tutors and children, where tutors assist a child one-on-one. By being a tutor with LBN, volunteers take on significant responsibility and develop communication and organization skills. Through Learning Buddies Network, you will have the opportunity to work directly with a child and develop a supportive mentoring relationship to foster the child’s learning, self-esteem and attitude towards schoolwork. If you are a university, college, or senior high school student looking for a meaningful volunteer experience we are looking for you to join us! Applications are now OPEN for reading and math programs running once a week (each session is 1hr 15min long) from the first week of February 2016 and ends early April 2016. Tutors are expected to attend all sessions, and new tutors must also attend one of the scheduled training sessions prior to the start of the program. For program details and to apply, please visit http://learningbuddiesnetwork.com/?p=87. Interviews are held in January. We accept applicants on a rolling basis and our spots fill up quickly so please apply early to maximize your chances of getting into the program of your choice!
