Title: Youth Mentorship Program mentor About the Mentorship Program The goal of our Mentorship Program is to connect new immigrant and/or refugee youth with multiple barriers to volunteer mentors in the community. Youth will have chance to discover their strengths with the support of positive role-models. Our aim is to assist the at‐risk youth to transit back to high school/continue education or seek for employment in a smoother manner. Also, to empower youth and provide tools for them to make constructive choices and changes, and help them develop into adult that is strong, capable and confident. Nature: Volunteer Position Description We are seeking committed volunteer mentors, from all backgrounds, to engage in mentorships with new immigrant and/or refugee youth. Volunteer mentors will meet with their youth throughout the month, and participate and plan activities together. Duties: 1. Meet with youth mentee on weekly basis (except long weekend) 2. Provide positive role-modeling to youth mentee 3. Attend the monthly meeting for activity planning Qualifications: We are looking for volunteer mentors who are: 1. Mature, assertive, and being a positive role-model; 2. Energetic and able to relate well to youth; 3. Able to work effectively in a diverse team environment; 4. Able to manage crisis situations effectively and work independently; 5. Able to speak in Arabic and/or Kurdish is consider an asset; 6. Must be able to complete a Criminal Record Check; 7. Most importantly, you are able to commit to a mentorship lasting a minimum of 6 months, and devote 2-4 hours per week to meet with your youth mentee and plan activities. Appreciation certificate 4. Learn about event planning and team spirit 5. It will provide a sense of achievement Duration: Volunteer is expected to commit from now to December. Must be able to commit to at least two sections each month. We are meeting every Saturday (except long weekend), from 12:30 pm-4:30 pm Please apply online on or before July 8, 2016.
