About Us
The Crisis Centre of BC is dedicated to providing help and hope to individuals, organizations,
and communities. Spanning the spectrum of crisis support, suicide prevention, and postvention, we engage staff and volunteers in a variety of services and programs that educate, train, and support the strength and capacity of individuals and communities.

About the Role
As a Volunteer Story Writer, you will play a crucial role in telling the stories of our users, frontline volunteers and staff, and the impact of our programs. Your compelling narratives will help to raise awareness of our services, generate empathy, and inspire donations to support our mission.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct interviews: You will connect with our volunteer crisis responders, service users and partners, and work with them to gather firsthand accounts of their experiences, challenges and successes.
  • Write compelling stories: You will craft narratives that highlight the human impact of our work and resonate with donors. The stories you create will be used in the development of our fundraising materials, and will appear in places such as (but not limited to) donor appeals, newsletters, our website, social media.
  • Edit and proofread: You will create content to a high standard, ensuring the accuracy and quality of your writing.
  • Work collaboratively with the Communications team: You will work with the Coordinator, Communications and the Coordinator, Development to produce content that fits the scope of our current campaigns and reflects the vision of the Centre.

Requirements:

  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills
  • Strong interviewing techniques
  • Ability to empathize with and understand the experiences of others
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively
  • A passion for social justice and helping others
  • Experience in journalism, communications, or a related field is preferred
  • Proficiency in Google Drive and ability to use Google Docs
  • Understanding of the Crisis Centre’s mission, vision and programs
