Opportunity Description:

Time Commitment:  April 13th – June 18th.  Work mostly on your own time from home 4-6 hours per week leading up to the festival.  Ideally,  you are available to attend weekly Core Team planning meetings held every Friday from 4-6pm.  Must be fully available for Volunteer training sessions on June 1st and 9th (*tbc) and the day of the festival on June 16th, 2018.

POSITION OBJECTIVES:  Assist the Volunteer Coordinator with all aspects of Volunteer recruitment, scheduling, training, and supervision for the 11th Annual West End Car Free Day festival.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recruitment

Assist in promoting the volunteer program, recruiting new volunteers and facilitating returning volunteers via social media, job boards, and activating community connections
Assist with document creation and maintenance

Scheduling

Use Google forms and Excel to organize and schedule volunteers
Use Slack and Nation Builder for team communications
Assist in scheduling replacement volunteers when shift cancellations occur

Training + Supervising

Assist in safety training for volunteer core team, and for Day-of festival volunteers
Assist with volunteer supervision on the day of the festival

Post-Festival

Assist in planning for volunteer appreciation at the Car Free Festival wrap party
Create a written report after end of the festival

REQUIREMENTS:

Must be 19+ years
Excellent written and spoken English communication
Proficient use of Microsoft Office software, Google Suite applications
A balanced ability to meet commitments, deadlines, and safety objectives while keeping things fun and stress free

ASSETS:

First Aid
Valid BC Drivers License and own vehicle or car share membership
A great enthusiasm for volunteerism

TRAINING AND ORIENTATION PROVIDED:

Orientation for this position is provided in the form of access to all relevant files and materials related to the Volunteer department of West End Car Free Day, and by participating in weekly planning meetings.
