Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House plays a leadership role in building a healthy and engaged neighbourhood by connecting people and strengthening their capacity to create change.
Founded in 1986, Mavis McMullen Housing Society (MMHS) is a grassroots non-profit charitable organization committed to providing women-led safe housing and building community for at-risk families. The Society came to be through the efforts of a group of women living and working in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside who saw a need for permanent, safe and affordable housing for women and their children. The Society operates two housing complexes: Mavis McMullen Place, located in the Downtown Eastside, has 34 suites providing housing for 55 residents; Haley Place, located in East Vancouver, contains 39 suites housing 79 residents.
We are a Vancouver-based chapter of IODE Canada.
Women dedicated to a better Canada is our official motto. IODE members are filled with energy and creativity and have a clear sense of purpose. Our fundraising activities have supported education and citizenship programs and community services to those in need at home and abroad since 1900.
Members volunteer with and for people, focusing on Children, Education and Community Services. Each IODE chapter has the autonomy to choose and support projects in their own community. With just a few monthly hours, you can make a difference and form lifelong friendships.
The main benefit of belonging to IODE is being part of a like-minded group of women who work together to improve the quality of life for those in need.
BEST, or Better Environmentally Sound Transportation, is a non-profit organization that has been promoting sustainable transportation since 1991. Our vision: Through sustainable transportation, we build vibrant, inclusive communities. Our mission: To activate better transportation options through initiatives, collaboration and leadership.
BEST’s current programs include The Bicycle Valet, a social enterprise that provides free and secure bicycle parking, primarily at events throughout Metro Vancouver all year long. The Bicycle Valet relies on a large passionate team of staff, volunteers, and summer students who help foster sustainable transportation options in local communities.
Living Streets is BEST’s walking and pedestrian focused program. We work with Neighbourhood Houses and municipalities in BC to organize year-long walking events and opportunities for all ages. One of these events is Walk30: a 5 week fun competition in the spring focused on walking for health, supported by health authorities, municipalities, schools and other workplaces.
Since 2010, BEST has run programs focused on improving and increasing transportation options for seniors. Currently, the focus is on a three year systems change project (Seniors on the Move) across BC, as well as delivering workshops to skill up seniors exploring transportation options beyond driving alongside United Way BC.
The Education & Career Fair (ECF) is B.C.'s Largest Career Development Fair. This includes secondary students planning for higher education and exploring career options; young adults looking to transfer their work experience & skills to a different industry; and new immigrants seeking employment and further training to settle in Canada.
Since 1996, ECF has worked hard in the aim of facilitating connections that drive career decisions and inspire growth for individuals and organizations in an evolving economy and job market. Over the years, we have helped students and young adults plan their education and career journey by connecting them with valuable tools and contacts. ECF has attracted over 12,000 attendees across all fairs in British Columbia, and last year, we have expanded our scope to launch a series of fairs is Ontario as well. ECF is today proud to be recognized by Business in Vancouver as "Top Trade Shows in the Lower Mainland".
Kids Help Phone is Canada’s only 24/7 e-mental health service offering free, confidential support to young people in English and French.
Kids Help Phone has a pioneering history of creating innovative supports for critical issues young people face. We began in 1989 as a unique telephone counselling service, launched to provide free, accessible support to any young person reaching out from coast to coast to coast.
Our focus was supporting young people experiencing abuse, but almost immediately, young people let us know they needed more from the service than one focus and one way to reach us.
For over 30 years, we’ve evolved our response and offerings. We concentrate on staying relevant to youth, recognizing the complexity of issues they face, and we help to ensure our professional counsellors and volunteer crisis responders are ready to address young people’s continuum of emotional and mental health needs, from crisis situations to the everyday concerns of growing up.
The Chinese Canadian Museum Society of British Columbia was founded in March 2020 as an independent, non-profit society to establish and operate a public museum in British Columbia honouring Chinese Canadian history, contributions, and living heritage. The Chinese Canadian Museum will be a testament to Chinese Canadian experiences, foster respect, inclusion, and collaboration among all communities and across generations. Telling stories through the diverse voices of Chinese Canadians is central to the development of CCM.

West Coast LEAF is a legal non-profit and charitable organization with a mandate to advocate for inclusive and intersectional gender equality. We use law reform, public legal education, and litigation strategies to achieve systemic transformation, collaborating directly with communities impacted by gendered harms. We are committed to advancing an inclusive vision of feminism that defends the right to be free from discrimination based on gender identity and gender expression. Streetohome changes lives and builds better futures for individuals with lived experience or at-risk of homelessness. Streetohome strives to broker the integration of evidence-based and promising practices that address gaps in the homelessness services system to better meet the employment & volunteering; education, skills & training; health & wellness; housing; legal & advocacy; and community & belonging needs of vulnerable individuals.
DC Coding Association is a non-profit organization located in BC, Canada that offers free coding related courses to children. We want to help those who really want to learn how to code but they may have financial difficulties.
Our goals are to:
- To offer free or affordable high-quality coding classes to children and youths who really want to learn coding but their family has financial difficulties.
- To allow more children and youths to have the chance to learn coding.
- To give a place for more children and youths who love coding to collaborate and communicate together.
- To make underserved communities better by providing this service and to remove barriers for those who want to learn and enter the coding industry.
Protein Project subsidizes much needed protein for Food Banks in BC & Alberta. The Protein Project is a community partner in the 50 Million Meals Campaign offering Fair Trade Kampot Pepper - the best pepper in the world. If 1/10th of one percent of pepper lovers chose Kampot Pepper we can deliver 50 Million Meals through the food bank system.
The Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre (VHEC) is seeking qualified and enthusiastic individuals to join our dedicated team of docents – volunteers who share a passion for human rights and social justice, through Holocaust-based anti-racism education. Volunteering as a docent is a wonderful opportunity to share your dedication to the pursuit of a more just world, supporting programs the aim to empower students and the general public to become upstanders against antisemitism and other forms of racism.
About the VHEC
The VHEC is devoted to Holocaust-based anti-racism education and commemoration, reaching more than 25,000 students each year. The Centre produces thematic exhibitions as well as holds Western Canada's largest collection of Holocaust-related artefacts, testimonies and archival documents. The VHEC offers educational programs and supports educators through professional development, and access to resources, school programs and events. The VHEC also presents commemorative programs, book launches, film screenings, public programs and conferences for teachers. The VHEC’s teaching philosophy emphasizes an interactive approach, encouraging exchanges between docents and students/visitors, through exhibition tours, as well as educational workshops in schools and virtual platforms.
