Organization: Young Readers’ Choice Awards Society of BC About Us: The Young Readers’ Choice Awards Society of BC is dedicated to fostering a love of Canadian literature among children, families, and educators across British Columbia. Through our programs and initiatives, we provide opportunities for young readers to discover, connect with, and be inspired by outstanding Canadian books. Role Overview: As the Human Resources Manager volunteer, you will play a key role in ensuring that the Society operates smoothly and effectively by supporting our team with HR-related tasks. This position is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about Canadian children literature and eager to contribute their skills to a meaningful cause. Key Responsibilities: Volunteer Management: - Assist in recruiting, onboarding, and orienting new volunteers. - Maintain an updated record of volunteers and their roles within the organization. - Support volunteers with resources and ensure a positive volunteer experience. Policy Development: - Draft and update policies and procedures related to volunteer and staff engagement. - Ensure compliance with relevant labor and nonprofit guidelines. Team Support: - Mediate and resolve minor team concerns or questions as needed. - Assist in fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture. Administrative Tasks: - Maintain HR documentation, such as volunteer agreements and training materials. - Support the scheduling and coordination of volunteer activities or meetings. Qualifications: - A background or interest in human resources, nonprofit management, or related fields. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills. - Ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion. - Familiarity with BC employment and volunteer management standards is an asset but not required. Each spring, we join together to build a more hopeful future for all those affected by workplace tragedies. On any given working day, three families will learn a loved one won't return home from work. Thousands more will experience a workplace injury or illness that will change their lives forever. Their families, friends, and co-workers will rally together to be there for one another. The Association for Workplace Tragedy Family Support, known as Threads of Life, supports the healing journey of families who have suffered from a workplace fatality, traumatic life-altering injury, or occupational disease. Every year, Threads of Life hosts Steps for Life. This 5-km family walk aims to educate the community. It highlights the ripple effects of workplace tragedies. And, it shows how we can prevent such incidents.

Since 2006, BEST’s (Better Environmentally Sound Transportation) Bike Valet has been providing professional, secure, coat-check style bicycle parking in and around Metro Vancouver. The Bicycle Valet is one of Better Environmentally Sound Transportation (BEST) initiatives. It’s simple! Ride your bike to the Valet at one of our events, and we’ll take care of the rest. Just like a coat-check, we’ll tag your bike and provide you with a claim stub. Enjoy the event, and bring back the claim stub when you want your bike returned. You can even leave your helmet or panniers on your bike (securely attached of course). We also offer lots of sustainable transportation resources in Metro Vancouver, including City of Vancouver pocket maps, Regional Cycling Maps, Translink transit maps, and other municipalities’ cycling maps. Our friendly Valet team members are also always happy to chat, provided we’re not too busy parking bicycles!

Fridays on Front is Downtown New West’s signature summer event series, bringing together food, music, and community vibes every Friday night. Fridays On Front is organized by the Downtown New West BIA which, since its founding in 1989, has brought together over 650 property owners and businesses to energize and promote Downtown New West. Fridays On Front transforms Front Street into a celebration filled with live music, local food and drink, community vendors, and themed experiences that bring thousands of people into the heart of downtown.

Our community farm grows food for the Richmond Food Bank and Musqueam Free Market on 4.5 acres in Richmond, BC with dedicated volunteer support. We grow food. We grow farmers. We grow community.
