The Young Readers' Choice Awards Society of British Columbia is the non-profit organization that administers the Red Cedar Book Award. The purpose of the Award is to create a rich reading experience for children in grades 4-7, families, and educators while supporting and promoting the Canadian publishing industry. Our mission is that we are:

The Settlement Workers In Schools (SWIS) Program is a school-based settlement service for immigrants, refugees and other eligible clients to meet their immediate settlement and ongoing needs after their arrival in Canada.
Grade 1 French Immersion Class
ECSSEN Career School (hereafter ECSSEN) is a Canadian charity (Charity # 859245102RR0001) registered in Alberta. It was established in 2004 and has been run by a group of passionate and dedicated volunteers ever since. It focuses on:
- helping immigrants and youth gain Canadian work experiences and skills through workplace practicum and in house programs;
- creating opportunities for them to adjust and contribute to Canadian Society through volunteering; and
- partnering with local social service agencies/businesses in supporting people in need through charitable initiatives.
Start2Finish is a national nonprofit that works with elementary school students in over 70 under-resourced communities across the country.
Our mission is to break the cycle of child poverty by providing ongoing educational support to Canada’s at-risk children throughout their school years, nurturing mind, body and social health so they are empowered to succeed and become role models for change. Our vision is to eradicate the effects of child poverty in Canada.
We operate free running and reading clubs once a week at partner elementary schools that focus on physical activity and literacy development. Students work towards completing a 5km run by the end of the program and also participate in reading challenges. These clubs run from October to the end of May.
We are Jit Jots, a passion project founded by UBC undergraduate science students. Our organization’s goal is to spread our love for science through hosting fun and engaging in-person workshops for community centre youth programs. These workshops are designed to inspire a passion for science in youth through experiment demonstrations by our team, hands-on activities, and activity sheets.
Currently, we are hoping to recruit Grade 9-12 students to join our volunteer team. After relaunching from a hiatus due to COVID-19, we are in need of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to help with the creation and design of workshops, as well as presenting the workshops to youth. Books For Me aims to promote a love of reading and improved literacy by providing elementary school children with the opportunity to choose books to keep and build their personal library. We run monthly programs in elementary schools and community centres in Vancouver and support book drives to collect gently used books for our program. Â We are a 100% volunteer run charity and to date have given away over 100,000 books.
Our mission at The Youth Tutoring Project is simple: to help every child reach their full potential and achieve their dreams through engaging, fun, and interactive tutoring sessions. We believe that every child deserves access to quality educational support, no matter where they come from. The Youth Tutoring Project addresses the academic struggles of lower-income grade 1-8 students. Unlike other affordable services, YTP combines tutoring with students' passions, fostering enthusiasm for learning and innovation.
We provide an innovative, engaging, and accessible approach to sexual exploitation and human trafficking education by focusing on root causes. The Exploitation Education Institute takes a holistic and proactive approach to address the complex issues of exploitation and trafficking through education, advocacy, and training.
Wonderstruck Camp is a Summer day camp in North Vancouver for 5-9 year-olds. Campers enter a fantasy story led by a wizard named Wonder, his mythical friends, and the esteemed professor of magic, Dr.Lorekeeper. Each activity advances the plot of the story through games, skits and other challenges until campers have participated in solving a central problem in the mythical world.

James Thompson Elementary School has approximately 250 students. Parent Advisory Council (PAC) is a committee made up of parents, who are committed to the education and well being of the children in our school. We work closely with the administration and staff to provide education enrichment opportunities for our students. Some of the duties of Thompson PAC is to fundraise and manage school projects that is not fully-funded by the Ministry of Education or the school district.
