POSITIVE LIVING BC is dedicated to empowering persons living with HIV/AIDS through mutual support and collective action. We are a Registered Non-profit Society (#11928-2085) and an established leader in the HIV/AIDS movement. Uniquely among major agencies in Canada, the POSITIVE LIVING BC Board of Directors is composed entirely of HIV-positive members. With a membership of more than 5,400 HIV-positive members and a proud history spanning three decades, we are Western Canada's largest AIDS service organization and an established leader in the HIV/AIDS movement. We rely on funding, donations from the wider community in order to provide our range of services and events, and to produce a variety of resources and publications.

Situated in the heart of Vancouver’s historic Chinatown, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden is a site of cultural heritage, learning, and reflection. Modeled after Ming Dynasty private scholar’s gardens in the city of Suzhou, China, it was the first authentic full-scale Chinese garden built outside of China (upon its completion in April 1986). Stunning architecture, winding paths and corridors, blooming plants and serene jade water ponds transport our visitors back to an ancient time and place.

CircusWest Performing Arts Society presents CircusFest 2014 from November 6th-9th in some of Vancouver’s most reputable venues including The Cultch, PNE Garden Auditorium, Wise Hall and Sideshow Studios. CircusFest celebrates the incredible talent and skill of circus artists and performers from across the Pacific Northwest. The festival will bring the Circus Community together over 4 spectacular days of performance, discussion, installation and more. CircusFest is the first of its kind in Vancouver and we need dedicated volunteers like you to help it be the best of its kind! Participation in the festival gives volunteers the chance to hone their skills, establish friendships, engage with Circus Arts and network within the community. The NSN strives to fulfill its vision by fostering social engagement and personal growth of youth. Our approach is multifaceted and includes the following: - To offer a comprehensive database of scholarships, volunteering and leadership work, and opportunities in the sciences, humanities, and business. - To empower youth through mentorship unique to their individual interests and needs - To provide an interactive and supportive community for youth to share thoughts, offer advice and engage in discussions.

ONE TO ONE is a unique children’s literacy program that provides one-to- one tutoring to elementary school students who struggle with reading. Our trained volunteers work with students in schools during school hours. These students are identified by their teachers as needing a boost in their literacy skills. The program is aimed at the grey-area students, those who do not receive any other resource support directly from the schools (i.e. no designated learning issues) but are not yet reading at grade level and often receive little or no literacy support at home. ONE TO ONE provides these children with an opportunity to practice their reading in an environment where it is okay to take risks, make mistakes, and learn at their own pace. It is our goal to bring these students up to reading at their appropriate grade level, providing them an opportunity for academic success and hope for a brighter future.

Camp Goodtimes is a safety-focused, medically supervised, fun and recreational summer camp for children with cancer and their families; it is run through the Canadian Cancer Society.

The primary mandate of the OCD Clinic is to provide provincial specialized consultation for children and youth age 6-18 with complex Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and related disorders who have not responded to community treatment resources. In addition, the OCD clinic provides education to families, community clinicians, schools and public health agencies, which includes community education events. Furthermore, the OCD Clinic conducted research to increase our understanding of the etiology and needs of youth with OCD and related disorders, along with their families, and to also inform evidence-based practice. Research on the causation, long-term course and treatment of OCD is an integral aspect of the clinic’s activities.

Located in a heritage fire station built in 1906, the Firehall Arts Centre produces a season of eclectic theatre, dance and interdisciplinary performances and acts as a host to visual arts exhibitions in its intimate gallery/lounge. Each year the Centre hosts over two hundred performances bringing audiences into the heart of the city to enjoy artistic works, view art works in the gallery and sip a beverage on the enclosed courtyard.

Working Gear is a registered charitable non-profit society. We are run by volunteers and have been operating in Vancouver, British Columbia since 2007. We assist low income unemployed men in their return to the workplace by providing work appropriate clothing at no cost. These men are seeking jobs in a wide range of industries and we provide them with everything from boots to suits.

As a Neighbourhood House, SVNH responds to the needs and aspirations of its community members by providing services, programs, special events, facilities and information to promote involvement and a spirit of community. As a social service agency, SVNH responds to the concerns, problems and changing needs of the community through program development, advocacy and a continuing effort to improve the quality of family and neighbourhood life in a creative, caring way. Objectives: To identify, assess and address the needs of the community To provide practical services and special events that will help individuals and families address their personal and social development needs To encourage the involvement of volunteers and provide them with training and support; and to recognize their significant contributions to SVNH and the community To cooperate with other agencies in the assessing of needs and development of programs where appropriate To provide an environment in which staff may grow and develop, receive fair treatment, derive job satisfaction and work to achieve the objectives of the organization, other non-profit groups and organizations, to the extent that facilities, personnel, funds and other resources allow.
