Frontier College is a national non-profit literacy organization that has been working with kids, teens, and adults for over 100 years. We connect with diverse communities and respond to specific learning needs and gifts, in order to develop and deliver inclusive literacy-based activities for all learners. We work in partnership with community-based programs in multiple locations around Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. Through tutor recruitment, training, and placement we support individuals and communities in reaching their literacy and learning goals.

We believe that literacy is a right.

<p class="font_8"><span class="color_15">Learning is a lifelong journey with challenges and difficulties, during which we grow and gain confidence. In the GRIT learning hub, we provide professional, passionate academic support in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics). Our educational support ranges from Grade 1 through Grade 12 in an encouraging and highly supportive environment.</span></p>
<p class="font_8"><span class="color_15">We also incorporate the GRIT spirit in our education method, utilizing passion and perseverance to educate students to achieve their long-term success throughout their lives. Our curriculum encourages students to take thoughtful risks, engage in experimental learning, problem-solve, and embrace teamwork for inspirational support. Our focus and devotion to education prepare students for the confidence and abilities to meet and exceed any educational challenges.</span></p>

The Goh Ballet Vancouver Society hosts and presents dance productions for emerging performing artists as well as nurtures and cultivates artistic achievements when students transition to professional status. The Society enlists community support for scholarship, bursaries and public education programs.

Annual fundraising events are held for Scholarship Funds, Performance Productions and Artistic Development Projects.

My name is Melissa, and I am the owner of a local tutoring centre in Cloverdale, BC. Gold Star Learning Centre has been serving students in the community for over six years. Part of the reason it is so successful, is because of the amazing volunteer tutors that have a passion for teaching and working alongside children.

I am currently looking to add 5 more volunteers to the team.

The ideal volunteer would have experience working with children, be knowledgeable in at least one teachable subject (ie: Math, Physics, Writing, Language Arts, French..) and be a great mentor to a child who is struggling in school.

 

Our centre teaches students from grade 1-12.

Graines de Chefs offers nutrition and healthy cooking classes to kids in schools and after school program in the Great Vancouver area.

JA (Junior Achievement) is the world’s largest NGO dedicated to educating young people about business. We strive to inspire and prepare youth to succeed in a global economy. With over 120 member organizations worldwide, JA brings a global view of business to local communities. We partner with educators, donors and volunteers to bring a real world experience into the classroom. Our programs focused on financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship give students the skills and confidence they need to become leaders of tomorrow.

James Thompson Elementary School has approximately 250 students. Parent Advisory Council (PAC) is a committee made up of parents, who are committed to the education and well being of the children in our school. We work closely with the administration and staff to provide education enrichment opportunities for our students. Some of the duties of Thompson PAC is to fundraise and manage school projects that is not fully-funded by the Ministry of Education or the school district.

<span style="font-weight: 400">We are Jit Jots, a passion project founded by UBC undergraduate science students. Our organization’s goal is to spread our love for science through hosting fun and engaging in-person workshops for community centre youth programs. These workshops are designed to inspire a passion for science in youth through experiment demonstrations by our team, hands-on activities, and activity sheets.</span>

<span style="font-weight: 400">Currently, we are hoping to recruit Grade 9-12 students to join our volunteer team. After relaunching from a hiatus due to COVID-19, we are in need of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to help with the creation and design of workshops, as well as presenting the workshops to youth.
