To optimize the clients experience with their exercise program, by providing program support to staff and the clients participating. Volunteers will be required to commit to the entire program which is 4 weeks in duration, for 2~2.5 hours during the following time slots: 1) Wed 4-6pm, 2) Thur 4-6pm, or 3) Sat 8:30-10:30am. You do not have to be available for all of the time slots but please let us know which time slot(s) you are available. Training on interacting with persons with disabilities will be provided. Particularly we will provide sighted guide training for interacting with people with visual impairments. Volunteers may need to walk participants from the Langara Sky Train station to our pool (2 blocks south), and help our participants to navigate the pool area, change rooms, and lobby. There is also a mandatory volunteer training session that all volunteers must attend prior to the beginning of their first shift. Volunteers who have committed to all 4 classes within October and attended the training session will receive a confirmation of volunteer hours. References will also be provided for volunteers who have accomplished the above. All volunteers will also be invited to the program wrap-up potluck at the end of October. This volunteering opportunity is a fun and unique way to build your resume and to work with others! Many of our volunteers/staff/directors are involved in health care careers including but not limited to occupational therapy, physical therapy, medicine, pharmacy, recreational therapy, speech language pathology, nursing, and more!
