EVENT OVERVIEW
Diabetes Canada’s 2022 Best Banting Gala celebrates the magic of 60 years of summer camp, complete with fireside stories, live music, and auction adventures, raising funds to create a magical week at camp for children & youth living with type 1 diabetes.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The BB Gala Committee is responsible for working with volunteers and the Diabetes Canada (DC) staff to execute a successful event in June 2022. The Committee Member will support all fundraising aspects of the event to reach or exceed our revenue goal.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Actively participate in at least one committee meeting per month (in-person or teleconference will be scheduled on average per month).
- Identify and approach personal and professional networks for the purpose of securing:

- Cash sponsors
- In-kind sponsors
- Cash donors
- Auction items
- Actively promote ticket sales with the goal of selling at least 15 to 20 tickets.
- Sell raffle tickets in advance of the event (if pre-event sales are available).
- Raise awareness of the Gala by sharing event information with personal and professional networks through email, social media and / or other means.
Keep the DC Staff Lead apprised of activities i.e. businesses being approached for sponsorship or auction support, ticket projection numbers etc.
COMMITTEE IMPACT
- Increase in revenue leading up to, during and after the Gala.
- Enhanced awareness and participation by individuals in Diabetes Canada’s programs and activities.
SUSTAINED OUTCOMES
- Increased revenue will increase the capacity of Diabetes Canada to deliver programs and services.
- Increased awareness of Diabetes Canada services and programs and therefore increased participation.

- Opportunity to visit Camp Kakhamela for a first-hand experience of how the money raised supports the work of one of Diabetes Canada’s valued programs. Dependent on onsite Covid protocols.
SUPPORT
- The Committee Member will have the support of DC staff leads.
- The Committee Member will have the appropriate tools and resources to accomplish the responsibilities of the role.
SKILLS
- Ability to take initiative and be self-directed.
- Affinity for the work of Diabetes Canada and the valuable services we provide.
- Flexibility in schedule to deliver areas of responsibility and attend at least one meeting.
- Ability to hold others accountable in a positive and motivated manner.
- Work cooperatively with others to set goals, resolve problems and make decisions.
- Positively influence others to achieve results that are in the best interest of the event.
- Provide regular and timely updates on the progress and potential challenges for a successful event.
- Willingness to take ownership of the event and be responsible for the overall success of the gala.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in community fundraising.
- Experience with fundraising events, particularly galas.
- Strong business and personal connections with a willingness to leverage those connections to achieve the event goals.
