If so, read on:

Alderwood House Southlands—working in the Steveston Society of Children’s Centres group of Non-Profit Childcare Centres—is seeking a local gardener or landscaping enthusiast to help us maintain and improve our existing garden beds.

Our program uses an outdoor focussed, emergent curriculum to teach a small group of mixed aged, pre-school children  in a daycare environment. Our classroom is located in a heritage home with mature trees and beautiful existing landscaping bones for a gardener’s delight.

Our children have planted herbs and vegetables and regularly enjoy eating from the garden when it is in season.

We want to share our garden with a local community member who will be passionate about connecting to our community and enjoying the fruits of their labour through the smiles of happy kids eating ripe, organic strawberries right from the garden bed.

In order to volunteer with us, you must pass and maintain a clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector clearance and make a declaration of up to date vaccination status.

The ideal candidate(s) will have enough experience to work independently. The schedules can be flexible with daytime work or occasional weekends—if desired.

To apply, please email information@ssocc.ca with the title heading Volunteer Gardener.

Please include a bio of yourself and a statement about why you would like to volunteer in service to a daycare.
