Opportunity Description:

We are looking for volunteers to help with our various exercise classes. The classes are used to help improve strength, range of motion, sitting balance and general health of elderly people in wheelchairs.

Volunteers assist by helping to accompany residents to and from the program area. Under the direction of a Rehab Assistant volunteers provide general support to residents during the program as directed.

DELIVERABLES/DUTIES:

• Set up program area
• Invite residents to participate in program and assist residents to and from the program area
• Communicate with RA about issues concerning elders attending
• Assist with weights as directed – distributing, adjusting etc.
• Sanitize equipment/hand-weights if required
• Encourage and motivate elders to participate
• Participate in exercise activity, model and demonstrate proper technique as instructed
• Clean up program area and store equipment

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Excellent listening and communication skills.
• Sincere desire to interact with elders.
• Caring, compassionate and patient personality.
• Physically fit with an appreciation for overall health and exercise.
• Responsible, reliable and committed to the program.
