Time(s): 30 – 35 hours (including required 1-day training), weekdays Date(s): May 2016 –November 2016 Location: Various locations in Vancouver, Richmond and the North Shore Organization Name: BC Office of the Seniors Advocate’s Residential Care Project 2016 No of Positions: 100+ Organization URL: http://surveybcseniors.org Overview: We’re reaching out to 27,000 British Columbia seniors and their families to get first-hand feedback on the quality of their residential care and accommodations.   The results from this survey will give residents and their families a voice. They will provide a road map for improvement of the quality of care and services provided to residents and their families in residential care.   This project is being led by the BC Office of the Seniors Advocate, an independent office of the provincial government. The project is being managed by the BC Patient Centred Measurement Working Group and Providence Health Care. The project has been informed by the BC Office of the Seniors Advocate’s Long-Term Care Consultation Group.   The project is working in partnership with all health authority owned and operated sites, as well as all contracted sites (private-for-profit and private not-for-profit). The project is working with a survey vendor, the National Research Corporation of Canada, to collect and collate the resident and most frequent visitor survey data. The interviews are volunteer-powered, with over 900 volunteers needed contributing their time and effort across BC.   Position Title: Volunteer Interviewer Position Description: Attend 1-day mandatory training • Adhere to facility, Health Authority and the Office of the Seniors Advocate’s protocols, including signing a Confidentiality Undertaking Introduce yourself to facility staff before commencing interviews each day • Approach residents to explain the purpose of the survey and invite their participation • Conduct in-person interviews with residents in a manner that is consistent with the guiding principles of the BC Office of the Seniors Advocate and the BC Patient-centered Measurement Working Group, which means: Providing a safe and engaging environment for the residents to communicate Accurately documenting responses from residents Following the rules of how to conduct a structured interview Provide support to other interview team members and the Regional Engagement Lead Record hours & provide reports as requested Provide feedback to the Regional Engagement Lead about observations or experiences during interviews to improve the survey initiative Participate in the evaluation of the survey project and processes   Skills: Required Enjoy being with seniors Able to communicate effectively with seniors Professional demeanour Non-judgmental Patient, positive attitude, good listener, warm & friendly Reliable Teachable, follow directions carefully Work well with others Good time-management skills Good English language skills in reading, writing and speaking Legible handwriting – printing or cursive Regular access to e-mail Assets: Volunteers should be aware that as part of the interview experience they may be told about situations that are sad and/or the resident may cry or express other strong emotions that may be distressing to hear and experience. Experience in handling emotional situations is an asset for this role.
