The Bicycle Valet is a social enterprise run by the non-profit charitable organization, Better Environmentally Sound Transportation (BEST). Our goal is to eliminate barriers to sustainable transportation, in this case by providing a safe place for people to keep their bicycles (and bicycle accessories). This summer we’re partnering with the Vancouver Police Department and Project 529 at Granville Island to try out a new project, attacking bike theft from as many different angles as possible. We’ll have our valet open 7 days/week, be educating the public on best locking practices, registering bikes with Project 529, collecting data on current locking practices, as well as conducting a survey looking at transportation choices made by all people traveling to Granville Island. We’re looking for some motivated individuals who want to tackle this exciting new project with us. We’re hoping for someone who can spend a few days a week on-site, and some time in the office. On-site duties would include: -sharing information with the public on the project -registering bicycles with project 529 -social media -taking photos -collecting survey data -safely parking and returning bicycles Office duties include: -data entry -data analysis -communications -and more… let’s talk about what interests you most! We’re a tight knit team at BEST and The Bicycle Valet. We work hard together and are always trying new things. We will always have one staff member on-site (so don’t worry, you aren’t responsible for everything!), and we also GREATLY appreciate our volunteers. Many businesses on Granville Island have offered up incentives to entice volunteers too- so we’re able to feed you delicious food! Also, we have a couple of volunteer parties a year that are often described as “legendary”. You’d be invited!! Qualifications: Mainly, we want someone who is motivated, reliable, and keen to get involved in this exciting new project. If you also have some experience in marketing, customer service, data collection and analysis, communications, sustainability, or social media, even better. We’re happy to train you in anything that’s new to you, and want to make sure our volunteers are getting just as much from the experience as we are.
