Description de l'opportunité
Board Member – Fundraising Lead
Shot of Scotch Dance Society (Operating as Shot of Scotch Vancouver)
Volunteer Position | Board of Directors
About Shot of Scotch
Shot of Scotch Vancouver is a professional Scottish Highland dance company bringing the energy, athleticism and artistry of Highland dance to audiences through performances and community events. We also offer opportunities for adults to continue learning and growing in Highland dance, bringing together professional performers, students, dance enthusiasts and supporters of Scottish culture.
The Opportunity
We're looking for a Fundraising Lead to help strengthen Shot of Scotch's financial sustainability and support the future of our organization.
Like many small arts organizations, we need to diversify our revenue to sustain our programming and fairly compensate our artists. The Fundraising Lead will take the lead in coordinating our fundraising efforts, working with the Executive & Artistic Director, Board and volunteers to improve existing activities and explore practical new revenue opportunities.
This is a leadership role, not simply a position for someone to contribute ideas or help out at events. We need someone who can set priorities, keep fundraising moving forward and help make fundraising a shared responsibility across the Board. You won't be expected to do everything yourself, but you'll help ensure that fundraising has a clear direction and someone taking responsibility for it.
This is an unpaid volunteer position on the Board of Directors.
What You'll Do
- Lead fundraising planning: Work with the Board and Executive & Artistic Director to set priorities, establish realistic goals and track progress.
- Coordinate existing fundraising: Take the lead in planning and improving our current fundraising events and campaigns, working with other Board members and volunteers to get things done.
- Develop new opportunities: Explore practical ways to diversify revenue through sponsorships, donations, partnerships and other fundraising initiatives.
- Build relationships: Identify potential supporters, make connections and help coordinate fundraising asks.
- Engage our community: Help Board members, company dancers and volunteers contribute their networks, skills and time to fundraising, rather than leaving the responsibility to one person.
What We're Looking For
You may be a great fit if you have experience in fundraising, sponsorship, business development, sales, marketing, communications, relationship management or nonprofit or arts organizations.
We're looking for someone who:
- Enjoys building relationships and connecting people with opportunities.
- Is comfortable making or facilitating fundraising asks.
- Can turn ideas into practical plans and keep things moving.
- Is organized, reliable and comfortable working independently.
- Brings useful experience, connections or fresh perspectives.
- Believes in supporting the arts and community.
Experience with Scottish dance is not required. We're interested in what you can bring to the organization, not whether you already know our art form.
Why Join the Shot of Scotch Board?
- Help strengthen the financial sustainability of a unique local arts organization.
- Support professional Highland dancers and opportunities for adult dancers.
- Use your skills and connections to make a tangible difference.
- Work with a passionate community of artists, dancers and supporters.
Time Commitment
We anticipate an average commitment of 5–10 hours per month, including monthly Board meetings (typically 1–1.5 hours), fundraising planning and coordination, and participation in fundraising activities.
We currently hold three major fundraising events each year. Time commitments may fluctuate around events and campaigns, and the role will evolve as we determine what works best. Fundraising is a shared Board responsibility, and we aim to use everyone's time and expertise effectively.
Interested?
If you'd like to use your skills to help a local arts organization become more financially sustainable, we'd love to hear from you.
Please send your CV/resume to shotofscotch.board@gmail.com telling us a little about your experience and why the opportunity interests you.
