ASK Friendship Society is a Vancouver based nonprofit organization providing Adult Day Programs for older adults. Our programs offer structured out-of-home activities, social engagement, health monitoring, and essential respite support for family caregivers.  The Society has maintained a longstanding partnership with the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority and has served the community for nearly five decades. In 2023, the Society relocated to a newly built facility on the south side of Vancouver, enhancing our ability to deliver high quality programs in a modern and accessible environment.  The work of ASK Friendship Society is grounded in the enduring values of our founders: compassion, respect, honesty, integrity, and accountability to the individuals we serve and to the broader community.  We are currently seeking experienced and committed leaders to join our Board of Directors.  Accountability The Board of Directors is collectively accountable to the community, funders, and other stakeholders. Volunteer Board Directors are elected to a two-year term and play a vital role in providing strategic direction, ensuring sound governance, and supporting the long-term sustainability and impact of the Society.  Key Responsibilities Stay fully informed on the Society’s programs, operations, and strategic priorities Attend and contribute to monthly Board and committee meetings, the Annual General Meeting and other ad hoc gatherings Actively participate in governance, financial, human resources, business development, and fundraising discussions and decisions Maintain awareness of community issues, trends, and needs relevant to the Society’s mission and objectives Collaborate constructively with fellow Directors and support collective Board decisions Demonstrate loyalty, integrity, and fiduciary responsibility in all Board activities Ensure that financial statements, reports, and disclosures accurately reflect the organization’s financial position and operating results Ensure compliance with the Society’s by-laws, code of conduct, and Board policies Support and participate in fundraising, advocacy, and community engagement activities as appropriate Contribute to the recruitment, orientation, and mentorship of new Board members  Qualifications and Experience At this time, the Board is particularly interested in candidates with professional or lived experience in one or more of the following areas:  Human resources, compensation experience and CHRP designation is preferred Fundraising or resource development Medical or healthcare services Caring for or supporting aging adults Ability to represent and reflect the community served by the Society Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills Prior Board of Directors experience is an asset  Commitment This is a volunteer position requiring regular attendance at meetings, active engagement, and clear communication in Board and committee work.  Time commitment is approximately 2-6 hours per month and will vary based on the needs of the Society.  How to Apply If you are interested in joining our Board of Directors, please submit a letter outlining your interest and a current résumé to caring@askcentre.ca by February 1, 2026  For more information about ASK Friendship Society, please visit www.askcentre.ca.

Through fun activity-based play, volunteers provide youth with the knowledge to make informed decisions about a range of healthy lifestyle practices. Groups meet once weekly for 90 minute sessions during weekday afternoons at schools/community centres and engage in life skills, communication, and social-emotional discussions to encourage healthy life- long habits. The program is led by 2-3 mentors to a group of Littles and runs once a season for 8 to 10 weeks. Our Group Mentors are • Male, trans, and gender diverse individuals who are 18+. • Reliable, consistent, dedicated, and respectful of others. • Available to meet once weekly for 90-minute sessions from Monday to Friday between 2:30pm and 4:30pm. Our Game On! volunteers are asked to enroll in a minimum of two 8 week terms as it's the best way to experience this fun program. Our In-School Mentoring Program pairs you with one elementary school student who you share common interests with. Matches spend one-hour once per week together on school grounds doing non-academic activities such as playing sports, games, creating art or just hanging out at the playground. Our matches are paired for the duration, or remainder, of the academic school-year. Our Big Buddies are • Adults aged 18+, inclusive of male, female, trans, and gender diverse individuals. • Mentors who Little Buddies can talk to, learn from, and share experiences with. • Available 1 hour per week during school hours (weekdays between 10am and 3pm). Our Little Buddies are • Students grade 1 to 7 nominated by teachers, staff or by themselves. • Children who could use a bit of extra 1-on-1 attention, need to build confidence, or may have trouble connecting with peers. Our Mentoring with Math Program is designed to strengthen the impact of tutoring by adding in the element of mentorship. Our Math Mentors are • Adults aged 18+, inclusive of male, female, trans, and gender diverse individuals. • Reliable, consistent, dedicated and respectful of others. • Available to meet once weekly during weekday afternoons between 4:00pm and 5:30pm for 90-minutes for in-person sessions, or 60 minutes for virtual sessions. Our Mentoring with Math sessions run once a season 10 weeks and we ask volunteers to enroll in a minimum of two 10 week terms as it's the best way to experience this fun program. Our Math Mentees are • Children in grades 3 to 7 who demonstrate a need for assistance in math at their grade level. • From families who are not otherwise able to financially pursue academic support outside of school. It’s that time of year again—LunarFest is returning, and so is our School Outreach program! Storytellers and leaders, we want you! LunarFest is looking for fun and engaging leaders for our School Outreach project. From February 17 – 19, we will be bringing students (grade 4-7) to Granville Island. Students will participate in workshops that include storytelling related to the Year of the Horse and craft-making. In the spirit of our festival, we are using storytelling, arts, and culture to connect with students in a celebration of the Lunar New Year like no other. Do you have experience with public speaking? Are you interested in arts and crafts? Be a School Outreach Activity Leader for a day with LunarFest! Dates: February 17 – 19 Time: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm Locations: Ocean Artworks (Granville Island) Available positions: 1. School Outreach Activity Leader Tasks and Responsibilities: Learn about LunarFest programs prior to the festival Lead and emcee the storytelling and crafts sessions onsite Coordinate with staff and teachers onsite according to event schedule Able to take charge and work independently 2.
