LOCO’s researches and promotes the benefits of independent business - how they circulate dollars many times, create good jobs, and support other local suppliers. We do this because we believe resilient communities must be underpinned by strong economies and build shared economic prosperity. LOCO coordinates a Buy Local campaign in the province, work with communities to promote local economic development, research trends and recommends policy changes. We engage businesses, consumers and organizations to raise awareness of the economic and community benefits of independent businesses. We survey and engage businesses to measure and promote their community economic impact. We produce research that demonstrates the beneficial practices and impacts of independent businesses, engage businesses to measure, further and promote their impacts, and educate consumers and purchasers to influence them to buy local products and services whenever possible. We also research the challenges faced by independent businesses, advocate for reducing these barriers, and work to build bridges between businesses and policymakers.
