Parent Support Services of BC is a non-profit organization, with a mission to protect the safety and well-being of children and promote the health of all families by partnering with those in a parenting role and their communities to build support, advocacy, education, research, and resources. PSS offers the following programs and services: - Parenting Support Circles Program: self-help and peer support Circles to parents, grandparents, and/or other caregivers, in different communities throughout BC. Our Circles provide a safe space for parents, grandparents, and/or other caregivers, to not only get together to discuss their strengths, challenges or concerns they may have faced throughout the week or throughout their time in a parenting role, but to also build a supportive network, receive emotional support, and learn new skills. Moreover, in some of our communities, we have Circles that are: language specific – Spanish, Korean, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Filipino; for kinship care providers and grandparents who are raising their grandchildren or another relatives 24/7; for parents with children on the autism spectrum; for fathers and mothers in the prison system; and for parents of Trans or gender creative children. Each Circle is facilitated by two trained volunteers, who practice within a self-help and peer support model. Our model of practice provides Circle members with a supportive network; promotes self-advocacy; empowers and boosts self-esteem; and helps create a healthier living environment for all families. All our Circles are free, confidential and anonymous. - Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Line: operated by two part-time advocates, trained in advocacy, social work, family law, and government services related to kinship caregiving. Individuals can call in and seek information on complex services such as the Ministry of Children and Family Development, or they can call in if they have questions surrounding benefits, resources, and any other questions surrounding kinship caregiving. Our GRG support line operates on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 am to 2 pm – 1-855-474-9777 – GRGline@parentsupportbc.ca - Community Workshops: For parents, grandparents and/or caregivers. These workshops vary in topics and location.

For over 40 years, JDRF has been a global leader in the search for an end to type 1 diabetes (T1D), through both research funding and advocacy. During that time, we have always talked about a cure as a singular destination: a return to normal physiology. But today, we realize that we are engaged in a process of curing T1D – that a cure is not just a destination but also a journey along a path. And we recognize that a part of our mission must be to help those living with T1D today to live healthier, easier, and safer lives until we arrive at the end of that path.

Title: Volunteer Summer Camp Assistant Nature: Work closely with Summer Camp Leader and Co-Leader to provide a safe and fun environment at the Summer Day Camp being delivered at a family-oriented social housing complex. Excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience working with children aged 6-12. Duties: - Assist with supervision of summer camp participants. - Interact and engage with participants during sport/art/educational activities. - Assist staff with daily set-up, activity preparation, and clean-up. - Accompany summer camp staff and participants on field trips. - Provide input into and feedback on camp activities. Qualifications/Requirements: - Applicants must be above the age of 15. (University students preferred). - Experience in working with school aged children in a camp/group setting an asset. - Energetic, enthusiastic, and creative. - Mature, responsible, and reliable. - Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team environment. - Proficient in English; ability to speak an additional language is an asset. - Clear Criminal Record Check and Reference Check required. - First Aid and CPR training preferred but not a requirement. - Minimum commitment of 36 hours (6 shifts); regular availability throughout camp dates preferred. - Must attend volunteer orientation – Date and time TBA. Duration: - Shifts: Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays from July 3rd –August 6th, 2019. - Hours from 9:30am-3:30pm. - Additional shifts may be available for special events and/or field trips. Wildcoast Ecological Society is a not-for-profit group whose aim is to conduct research, environmental restoration and stewardship activities for degraded ecosystems on the south coast of British Columbia. We strive to fulfill this aim by developing and implementing local restoration projects, involving community members in restoration activities, and by supporting community stewardship projects that protect local ecologically sensitive species and the critical habitats in which they live.

International China Concern (ICC), a Christian non-profit organization, was founded in 1993 by David Gotts after seeing firsthand the suffering of Chinese children with disabilities who had been abandoned and left without hope in desperate conditions. In the beginning, ICC sent short-term teams into China to provide care in government welfare centres. Later, we established permanent locations which provide full-time family-style care for children in Changsha and Hengyang in Hunan Province.

We are a Vancouver-based non-profit volunteer organization. Our team’s official name is Love Builder Non-Profit Society, which was legally registered in BC in 2015. We are currently running an inter-generational & multicultural youth volunteer program which mainly focuses on helping seniors deal with problems such as social isolation and age-related mental illness. Our volunteers include young people who come from many different ethnicities; North American, Chinese, Latin American, Indonesian, Malaysian, Japanese, South Korean, and Eastern European, etc., 90% of which are high school and post-secondary students. Their ages range from 7 to 30 years old. Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre is a multi-use facility in Burnaby, BC. Nikkei Centre’s mandate is to promote a better understanding and appreciation by all Canadians of Japanese Canadian culture and heritage; and an awareness by all Canadians of the contribution of Japanese Canadians to Canadian society, through public programs, exhibits, services, publications, public use of the facilities and special events.

Our mission is to connect every youth in Metro Vancouver with the natural environment and to the Metro Vancouver Regional Parks system and surrounding communities, in a hands-on way, to provide life changing experiences. CTS delivers on our mission by providing accessible weekend overnight camps for free to youth ages 12-18. We also promote youth leadership with our Peer Leader program, allowing youth ages 15-18 to take a central role in the operation and planning of our summer weekend overnight camps, providing them with training session from November-June. The programs goal is to: Create region-wide opportunities for youth to challenge themselves in leadership, social responsibility and personal development; Provide an opportunity for youth to connect with their communities through citizen action, environmental stewardship, public service and community education; Help support and integrate youth into park and community associated activities and purposes.
