Crazy8s is a Vancouver-based film initiative run by the Crazy8s Film Society, a registered BC not-for-profit organization. Since 1999, it has supported emerging and mid-career Canadian filmmakers by providing funding, mentorship, and industry resources to produce professional short films. To date, Crazy8s has produced over 150 films that have screened and won awards at festivals worldwide.

The Vancouver Comic Arts Association runs the Vancouver Comics Arts Festival, or VanCAF! A two day festival at the Yaletown Roundhouse Community Centre that celebrates a diversity of voices and opens readers to new experiences; creates discussions through comics; and make comics creation and the reading of comics as accessible as possible.

Title: Volunteer Summer Camp Assistant Nature: Work closely with Summer Camp Leader and Co-Leader to provide a safe and fun environment at the Summer Day Camp being delivered at a family-oriented social housing complex. Excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience working with children aged 6-12. Duties: - Assist with supervision of summer camp participants. - Interact and engage with participants during sport/art/educational activities. - Assist staff with daily set-up, activity preparation, and clean-up. - Accompany summer camp staff and participants on field trips. - Provide input into and feedback on camp activities. Qualifications/Requirements: - Applicants must be above the age of 15. (University students preferred). - Experience in working with school aged children in a camp/group setting an asset. - Energetic, enthusiastic, and creative. - Mature, responsible, and reliable. - Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team environment. - Proficient in English; ability to speak an additional language is an asset. - Clear Criminal Record Check and Reference Check required. - First Aid and CPR training preferred but not a requirement. - Minimum commitment of 36 hours (6 shifts); regular availability throughout camp dates preferred. - Must attend volunteer orientation – Date and time TBA. Duration: - Shifts: Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays from July 3rd –August 6th, 2019. - Hours from 9:30am-3:30pm. - Additional shifts may be available for special events and/or field trips. Employ to Empower (ETE) supports residents in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside (DTES) community by providing access to development and entrepreneurial resources. ONE TO ONE is a unique children’s literacy program that provides one-to- one tutoring to elementary school students who struggle with reading. Our trained volunteers work with students in schools during school hours. These students are identified by their teachers as needing a boost in their literacy skills. The program is aimed at the grey-area students, those who do not receive any other resource support directly from the schools (i.e. no designated learning issues) but are not yet reading at grade level and often receive little or no literacy support at home. ONE TO ONE provides these children with an opportunity to practice their reading in an environment where it is okay to take risks, make mistakes, and learn at their own pace. It is our goal to bring these students up to reading at their appropriate grade level, providing them an opportunity for academic success and hope for a brighter future.

The Writers’ Exchange makes literacy exciting and accessible for inner-city kids through free mentoring and creative writing projects. Our vision is that every child will have the literacy skills necessary to access a world where anything is possible. The Writers' Exchange runs free literacy programs for at-risk kids in inner-city schools. As a volunteer literacy mentor, you help with reading, creative writing projects, literacy games and cool crafts, or support a small group of kids during in-school book-making programs. We have programs that run both during the school year and the summer months. Help us make literacy fun and accessible for kids!

We are a University of British Columbia (UBC) AMS Club dedicated to promoting the joys of music and providing quality music education to children in a fun environment by focusing on improvisation. We run free after-school music programs at Queen Alexandra Elementary School, and we are looking for volunteer violin teachers.
