For over 40 years, JDRF has been a global leader in the search for an end to type 1 diabetes (T1D), through both research funding and advocacy. During that time, we have always talked about a cure as a singular destination: a return to normal physiology. But today, we realize that we are engaged in a process of curing T1D – that a cure is not just a destination but also a journey along a path. And we recognize that a part of our mission must be to help those living with T1D today to live healthier, easier, and safer lives until we arrive at the end of that path.

The Plus One Mentoring program is for at risk youth in the community, ages 10-17. The youth meets with their mentor for 1 year (or 15 months maximum if need be). For the first 6 months of the program, the match is meeting once a week. During these meetings they will do various activities such as working out, playing sports, swimming, doing arts & crafts, baking etc. After 6 months, the match begins to meet less frequently; possibly once every 2 or 3 weeks depending on the youth's needs. During the time that the match is meeting, the youth will create 3 goals for the program to which the mentor will assist them in reaching these goals. The hope is that the youth leaves the Plus One Mentoring program having made positive changes in their life, and with skills that they can use to assist them on continuing to make positive changes and choices in life.

The Multicultural Helping House Society Newcomer Resource Centre (MHHS -NRC) is a registered non-profit society and charitable organization dedicated to serving the needs of newcomers to Canada.  In its 20-year history, the MHHS-NRC has provided assistance to thousands of new immigrants in addressing their needs from settlement, employment, social services, skills enhancement, respite housing, legal assistance, and education services.

The Green Party of Vancouver was founded in 1984, and has elected representatives to School Board, Park Board and City Council. In 2011, Adriane Carr - one of the party's original founders - was elected as Vancouver's first ever Green City Councillor. In 2014 she was re-elected at the top of the polls, receiving more votes than any city councillor in the history of Vancouver. 2014 also saw the Green Party of Vancouver elect the largest caucus of Greens in Canada. In addition to Councillor Adriane Carr, Stuart Mackinnon was elected for a second term on Park Board (he previously served from 2008-2011) along with rookie Green Park Board Commissioner Michael Wiebe, who became Park Board chair at the end of 2016. Stuart was appointed Park Board chair in December 2017. Janet Fraser was elected to School Board, where she held the balance of power on a split Board and served as Vice Chair until the entire Board was fired by the BC Liberal government in 2016. More Greens were elected in 2017 by-election , with our School Board candidates winning the top three spots in a 9-seat by-election. Janet Fraser, now Chair of the VSB, returned along with two newcomers, Estrellita Gonzalez and Judy Zaichkowsky. All of our elected Greens have one thing in common: they are appreciated by Vancouverites who value the principled leadership and creativity they bring to their elected bodies, their strong democratic principles, and their readiness to listen to what citizens have to say and then to be a voice for them at the decision-making table. The South Asian Family Association (SAFA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to highlighting the South Asian community and culture. Our goals are: - to promote positive images of the South Asian community - enhance cross-cultural understanding - empower families to maintain their heritage while embracing Canadian culture. Some of the ways we have accomplished these goals include: - organizing Indian festivals (including our annual summer India Live festival and Diwali functions) - providing annual scholarships to high school students who have demonstrated excellence in academics and community service - holding International Women's Day forums and Mothers & Daughters dinners - running youth summer camps - organizing health fairs for the South Asian community.

Located in East Vancouver, Urban Native Youth Association (UNYA) is a registered not-for-profit society. UNYA was formed in 1988 to address issues facing Indigenous youth, when growing numbers of young Indigenous people were leaving reserves for the city. Today, approximately 60% of the Indigenous population in Canada lives in urban settings, and 60% of the overall Indigenous population is under the age of 25. UNYA is the only Indigenous youth hub in the Vancouver area, and currently operates over 20 programs designed to support the immediate and long-term needs of urban Indigenous youth.

Cwenengitel Aboriginal Society is a non-profit organization that provides safe, central, suitable housing for Aboriginal Men. The approach to wellness offered by Cwenengitel is more encompassing than the standard form offered by conventional rehabilitation centers.  We focus on healing the whole person and our projects are designed to utilize all aspects of our culture to break the chain of substance abuse, alcoholism, and family violence.  We provide counseling services and educational assistance for all our residence with the aim of reintegrating them back into society

BrickCan is an event that showcases adult LEGO® creations mostly from Canada and the U.S.  It is a 4 day event taking place on May 2-5, 2019 at River Rock Casino.  BrickCan has 2 days that are open for the public to come view the diplays on May 4th and 5th, 2019 from 9 am to 4 pm.  We are looking for volunteers to help out in our Creation Station where the children attending the event can play with bricks and participate in games.  Volunteers should have experience working with children and enjoy working in a busy, fun environment!
