We are a grassroots advocacy organization that believes in mobilizing everyday people to generate the political will to end extreme poverty. We combine the voices of our volunteers with strategic areas of focus to leverage resources for programs and improved policies that give people living in poverty the health, education and opportunity they need to thrive. Whether it’s writing letters to the editor (LTEs), using social media or engaging with parliamentarians, our passionate volunteers positively impact people living in low- and middle-income countries.
Founded in 1969, the Society Promoting Environmental Conservation (SPEC) is a non-profit charitable organization that provides practical solutions for urban sustainability. Areas of work include local food security, zero waste, renewable energy and climate action. Farm-to-Plate Marketplace is one of the many food security initiatives that SPEC supports.
Farm-to-Plate is a virtual marketplace that provides consumers of all income levels with direct access to fresh, local produce through online ordering and weekly pick-ups. It is designed to directly connect farmers and community members in a way that is manageable for both parties. The program started in November 2020 at Little Mountain Neighbourhood House and has now expanded to include Jewish Family Services, each of whom run a virtual farmer’s marketplace. As many people are food insecure the program uses a pay-what-you-can model with a subsidy option so that locally grown food can be accessible to all income levels.
A Better City is Vancouver’s newest political movement, committed to building a coalition that represents all of Vancouver in our civic politics. Our Mission is to build a better city for everyone, together. Our Vision is a vibrant, resilient, growing city.
Deaf and Blind Africa is a registered Canadian non-profit organization that supports the technological advancement of Deaf, Blind and Deaf-Blind people in Africa. We aim at providing a fighting chance for all people born with hearing or vision disabilities in a rapidly changing world that is becoming more and more technologically advanced.
Cluborate (Cluborate Community) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to see all the youth organizations that aspire to create greater impacts to the people around us. We hope to expose both clubs and students to more opportunities to learn, engage and grow from participating in what interests us. At Cluborate, we are firm believers in providing youth with opportunities to get connected and connecting initiatives so they could collaborate to create greater impacts. We hope to see youth clubs and organizations working together to build a memorable high-school experience for students and volunteer executives. As each of us has our own unique talents and ambitions, we aspire for all youth to have a platform to connect with each other.
The West End-Coal Harbour Community Policing Centre is a non-profit organization which works in partnership with the Vancouver Police Department. We provide crime prevention education and personal safety awareness activities in downtown Vancouver, west of Burrard Street. What makes us special is YOU! The WECHCPC is driven by volunteer power; people from the community that have a personal attachment to the area and/or the types of services we provide, and want to make the community a better place for themselves and for others. The CPC’s success depends on you, your skills, your knowledge, and your experiences. No one knows the community better than the people who live, work, and play here!
The C.O.D.E. Initiative is an organization dedicated to increasing diversity in both the education and tech industries. Since 2017, we have provided coding and STEM workshops to neurodiverse children (youth who identify with being on the Autism Spectrum or having ADD/ADHD, GAD, or any other exceptionality) and underrepresented youth across Canada. Our mission is to cultivate inclusive and supportive environments for children to learn, explore and empower themselves in.
The VWMS is passionate about supporting young, aspiring B.C. musicians in all classical music disciplines to further their training and education. We award annual scholarships and bursaries and provide each of our award winners the opportunity to develop and perform a program before an appreciative audience.
Scholarships and Bursaries
Operating since 1905 to promote classical music, VWMS began offering scholarships in 1923 and bursaries in 1977. These funds helped many artists as they began their careers including Donald Bell, Jean Coulthard, Barbara Custance, Ben Heppner, Jon Kimura Parker, Jamie Parker, the Chooi brothers (Timothy and Nikki), and Avan Yu.
Our Scholarship competitions are open to musicians between 13 and 30 and operate under three categories - voice, piano and orchestral instruments - with each discipline held every third year. Our yearly bursary competitions are open to students enrolled in a recognized post-secondary music program in any music discipline. Three winners in each competition receive cash awards. All competitions have qualified adjudicators.
Concerts
Our winners plan and perform a one-hour concert program, which is a significant development experience. The young performers have shone and engaged us with wonderful concerts.

CityReach Care Society is looking for motivated and enthusiastic volunteers to help prepare fresh and healthy food hampers to serve over 1000 families each week.
Food for Families is a free, nutritious foodbank for vulnerable families and seniors in the Greater Vancouver Area. We serve over 1000 households with wholesome and healthy food including fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy, proteins and grains.
CPRS Vancouver offers professional development opportunities and social events for our members to network and discuss issues surrounding public relations, media relations, social media, event management, marketing, public engagement and public affairs.
Are you passionate about helping youth? The YMCA of Greater Vancouver is looking for volunteers aged 18 and older interested in fostering relationships, facilitating workshops, learning together, cultivating youth-led experiences and working with young people aged 10 to 17. Biosphere Eco-Cities Canada (BECC) is a national, non-profit network that works to connect all Biosphere Eco-Cities across Canada. A Biosphere Eco-City (BEC) is an urban area and surrounding countryside where cooperation and collaboration ensure that everyone’s actions can contribute to sustainability; ultimately fostering a culture of sustainability. Currently, there are five BEC initiatives across Canada; Ottawa (OBEC), Toronto (TBEC), Brampton (BBEC), Edmonton (EBEC), and Vancouver (VBEC). BECC provides support and acts as a resource and tool for collaboration among BECs while also implementing national sustainability projects.
BECs use 10 Themes of Sustainability (transportation, energy, design, habitat, food, natural capital, waste, health, recreation, and sense of place) and 5 Tools of Engagement (Database of Projects, Sustainability Plans, Workshops on Individual Themes, Demonstration Projects, and Council of Stakeholders) to create a culture of sustainability through community engagement, cooperation, innovation and sharing of knowledge, skills and information for sustainability.
