Greater Van Gogos is a network of more than 20 local groups registered with the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers Campaign. Our members are diverse, engaged and united by our commitment to support the work of African grandmothers raising a generation of children orphaned by AIDS. We raise funds, increase awareness about the challenges and successes of grandmothers in Africa and build solidarity between African and Canadian grandmothers. The Campaign is an exceptional model of fundraising based on the principles of social justice. African grandmothers identify their needs and the Campaign responds. Our support helps the community based organizations provide school fees and uniforms for children, adequate housing, skills training, home care visits, grief and trauma counselling and micro credit grants for income generation.
