WISH Drop-In Centre has been supporting street-based sex workers since 1984. All staff, volunteers and participants at WISH are women (cis and trans), Two-Spirit, non-binary, or gender diverse, and 19+ years old. We would not be able to operate without the dedication and commitment of our incredible volunteers! Volunteers help to prepare and serve more than 60,000 meals and snacks to WISH participants each year.As a Kitchen Volunteer at WISH, your duties would include:Receiving and processing food donationsFood prep and portioningDishwashing and light janitorial dutiesPrepare and serve hot, nutritious meals It’s important to understand that WISH Drop-In Centre is a non-judgmental space, providing a variety of low-barrier programs to participants. This opportunity is a good fit for volunteers with a commitment to harm reduction, active listening, and holding space for those in need. Our Mentoring with Math Program is designed to strengthen the impact of tutoring by adding in the element of mentorship.You’ll meet once-a-week for 90 minute sessions during afternoons over a 10 week period, and work on numeracy, activities, and games. No previous experience with math is necessary for volunteers and all training is provided by Big Brothers.
