Looking for strong individuals willing help install The Lantern City. Moving and lifting lanterns outdoors are required. You will also learn about the installation process for building The Lantern City for Lunar New Year!
Have you ever seen the large lanterns in various iconic locations in downtown Vancouver? Each year, The Lantern City exhibits artworks by artists of various cultural backgrounds on large-scale lanterns across the city. From setting up the frame to putting on the lantern fabric to lighting it up onsite, be a part of the process and help make Vancouver the city where diversity shines! Dates: Jan 21 - 28 AND/OR Feb 18 - 22 Time: 4 - 8 hours / day Tasks & Responsibilities:- Ability to lift 50-80lbs (lifting done in groups)

LunarFest School Outreach Leader

Description: Storytellers and leaders, we want you! LunarFest is looking for fun and engaging leaders for our School Outreach project. From February 10 - 13, we will be bringing students (grade 4-7) to Granville Island, VIFF Centre, and Robson Plaza. Students will participate in workshops that include storytelling related to the Year of the Snake and crafts-making. In the spirit of our festival, we are using storytelling, arts, and culture to connect with students in a celebration of the Lunar New Year like no other. Do you have experience with public speaking? Are you interested in arts and crafts? Be a School Outreach Activity Leader for a day with LunarFest! Dates: Feb 10 - 13 Time: 9:30am-1:00pm Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Learn about LunarFest programs prior to the festival
- Lead and emcee the storytelling and crafts sessions onsite
- Coordinate with staff and teachers onsite according to event schedule
- Able to take charge and work independently
- Able to attend training session prior to Feb 10

Youth Educator Volunteer

Description: Volunteer with the BC Crisis Centre! Be a part of a dynamic team making a difference in the lives of hundreds of youth in the Lower Mainland. Youth Educator Volunteers facilitate a 70 to 90-minute workshop for youth in grades 6 to 12 called Self-Care for Mental Health. Sessions may be presented in-person at elementary or high schools and youth-serving agencies in Vancouver, Burnaby, and North Vancouver, or virtually for schools outside of these areas. Youth wellness workshops provide valuable resources for youth, encourage peer support, and help to reduce stigma relating to mental health and suicide by creating awareness and teaching mindful tools. Volunteer commitment: 2 half-days per month for 1.5 years (3 school semesters), or a minimum 35 workshops Volunteer Requirements: – Strong desire to work with youth – Interest in / personal connection to the topic of mental health and suicide prevention – Availability for all four live training sessions 10am-4pm on the following dates: Saturdays May 10, May 31, June 7, and Sunday September 7 (at the Crisis Centre, 763 East Broadway, Vancouver). – 4-6 hours of independent learning (online and self-paced) – Completion of two half-days workshops: safeTALK & Skillfully Responding to Distress (flexible dates) – Daytime availability for workshop delivery (school hours) – two outings per month required – Willingness to travel throughout Vancouver, Burnaby and the North Shore – Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (upon acceptance of the role) – Comfort with public speaking and group facilitation is an asset What’s in it for You? – Comprehensive training and on-going support – Opportunity to work interactively with youth in an educational capacity – Real-world experience to enrich your public speaking and group facilitation skills – Join the community of compassionate Crisis Centre’s volunteers – Make a difference: build hope and resiliency among youth – Reference letters (subject to completion of basic commitment) – Free access to our Wellness Webinars, and a discounted registration for the 2-day ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training). Menstrual Equity Project Fundraiser (DAY Vancouver)

Description: Looking for youth volunteers to help fundraise for the cause of menstrual equity. All profits will go towards the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre. Date: February 16th official fundraising time: 12:00 to 16:00, split into two shifts. Setting up may require early arrival. Role: standing at the fundraising table, attracting passer-by to donate either in cash or online through QR codes (sign and poster provided), and keeping track of donations. Place: one station at Kerrisdale Scotiabank, one outside Richmond Brighouse Skytrain Station. Volunteer hours will be provided.
