We're looking for passionate volunteers to join our Board of Directors!About BEST MobilityBEST Mobility, founded in 1991 as Better Environmentally Sound Transportation, is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing healthy and sustainable transportation across British Columbia. Our work is grounded in collaboration, education and advocacy.Through partnerships with communities, institutions, and local organizations, we deliver practical programs that remove barriers and support people of all ages and abilities to access sustainable transportation choices. We also work alongside our partners to make meaningful progress on sustainable transportation across BC. View our 2026-2030 Strategic Plan to learn more about where we’re headed.About the RoleWe're looking for individuals across BC with leadership experience who are passionate about sustainability, public policy, and/or mobility justice, as well as people who bring skills and experience in:Fundraising, donor relations & fund developmentMarketing, communications, PR & mediaNon-profit organizationsBusiness, industry & community connectionsWe're also looking for diverse perspectives and lived experiences that can help strengthen our organization and advance our mission.We especially encourage applications from Indigenous peoples, members of the LGBTQ2S+ community, individuals with disabilities, and people from other equity-deserving groups.Time CommitmentBoard members are expected to attend at least 75% of meetings (held 9-12 times per year). Each Director is also asked to participate meaningfully in at least one Board committee, contribute actively to strategic planning and budgetary planning processes, and serve as a community ambassador for BEST Mobility, promoting the Society's mission, values, and programs in all relevant professional and public settings.Directors should expect to commit a minimum of three to five hours per month to Board duties, including meeting attendance, pre-meeting preparation, committee participation, and community representation. Conduct literature and background research on climate and sustainability issues.2. Review Canadian and international climate and environmental policies.2. Prepare policy briefs, policy summaries, and briefing notes.3. Analyze government strategies, legislation, programs, and consultations.4. Examine policies through environmental justice and Afro-ecofeminist perspectives.5. Assess implications for Black communities, women, youth, newcomers, and other underserved communities.6. Identify policy gaps and develop practical recommendations.7. Monitor emerging government priorities and policy developments.8. Research government, foundation, corporate, and community grants.2. Identify funding opportunities aligned with Jua Centre’s programs.3. Maintain a funding pipeline and deadline calendar.4. Review eligibility criteria and funding guidelines.5. Draft and edit grant applications, proposals, and letters of intent.6. Develop project descriptions, objectives, activities, outcomes, and indicators.7. Research statistics and evidence to strengthen funding applications.8. Assist with workplans and basic project budgets.9. Research potential sponsors, funders, and partners.10. Help develop reusable organizational language and funding materials.Ideal for: Strong writers interested in nonprofit management, fundraising, communications, business, public administration, international development, or community development. Create social media content, captions, educational carousels, and short-form videos.2. Develop Canva presentations, graphics, and educational materials.3. Help develop youth workshops, worksheets, quizzes, and interactive activities.4. Translate research and policy topics into accessible public-facing content.5. Profile Black environmental leaders working in engineering, science, sustainable fashion, food systems, urban planning, conservation, business, finance, and other fields.6. Support communications for programs, events, campaigns, and community initiatives.7. Assist with speaker, partner, and community outreach.8. Support event and workshop coordination as required.9. Help document program activities and impact.Ideal for: Students, graduates, or professionals interested in communications, marketing, education, environmental studies, nonprofit management, community development, event planning, or youth programming.
