About Bike the Night Presented by MEC On Saturday, September 16th, Bike the Night event is expected to draw 3,000 participants on bikes for a colourful evening ride through the streets of Vancouver. Starting at 7:30pm, the 10 kilometer ride is planned to follow scenic Vancouver streets through downtown and over the iconic Burrard Street Bridge. Bike the Night will include a pre-party at the start of the ride route where participants can enjoy music, free bike repairs, free hot chocolate, free snacks, bike decorating, light giveaways, and a HUB tent with bike maps and other information about cycling in Metro Vancouver. Over 150 volunteers helping at the start and end locations – as well as along the ride route – are needed to help to make this event possible. Volunteer Responsibilities include – Assisting with set-up and take-down – Managing the food and drink table – Raising awareness of HUB programming – Distributing Ride Packages – Selling HUB memberships and t-shirts – Directing people along the route – Answering questions about HUB programming and cycling in general – Leading riders – Taking photos! Skills & Experience – Positive and friendly attitude – Good communication skills Perks! – Gain valuable experience – Meet great people – Invitation to the volunteer appreciation party – Help make cycling better in Vancouver! – A small gift! Hours/Time Commitment Volunteers must commit to attending one training session in late August/early September, as well as being available for at least one shift on September 16th, 2017.
