Opportunity Description:

The Chinese Canadian Museum is seeking gallery ambassadors to support our Vancouver’s Chinatown museum location. As an ambassador, you will help to elevate the visitor experience by engaging visitors in our
museum exhibitions, answering questions, and sharing about Chinatown and Chinese Canadian experiences.

This is an exciting opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about Chinese Canadian history and experiences, and wanting to develop and fine-tune valuable career skills in public speaking, presentation, and group facilitation. It is also valuable for those pursuing a career in education,
communications, history, tourism, and other related fields.

Responsibilities

• Help maintain a friendly and welcoming environment that encourages visitors to learn, reflect and contribute their stories and ideas
• Help foster an inclusive environment for all visitors of all backgrounds
• Support wayfinding for visitors
• Help answer visitor inquiries about exhibitions on view, the Chinese Canadian Museum, Vancouver’s Chinatown, and Chinese Canadian history/experiences
• Help ensure visitors follow gallery rules within the museum space
• Support visitor flow and crowd management within the galleries (eg: helping guided tour groups make their way through the gallery space)
• Assist gift shop sales as needed
• Assist public programming as needed

Time Commitment
Volunteers must be able to commit to a minimum of one 2-3 hour shift per week for a minimum of 6 months.

Qualifications

• Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience in public speaking and presentation an asset
• Interest in learning about and sharing of Chinese Canadian history and culture
• Self-starter with a positive “can-do” attitude
• Enthusiastic and reliable
• Fluent in English, additional fluency in Cantonese and/or Mandarin highly valued
• The successful applicant will be required to consent to a Criminal Record Check

Training & Benefits
All prospective gallery ambassadors will be provided training for the role led by museum staff, with potential for additional opportunities for professional development offered throughout the year. Volunteers will also receive 2 complimentary admission tickets to the museum, and a 10% off CCM
merchandise.
