The Plus One Mentoring program is for at risk youth in the community, ages 10-17. The youth meets with their mentor for 1 year (or 15 months maximum if need be). For the first 6 months of the program, the match is meeting once a week. During these meetings they will do various activities such as working out, playing sports, swimming, doing arts & crafts, baking etc. After 6 months, the match begins to meet less frequently; possibly once every 2 or 3 weeks depending on the youth’s needs. During the time that the match is meeting, the youth will create 3 goals for the program to which the mentor will assist them in reaching these goals. The hope is that the youth leaves the Plus One Mentoring program having made positive changes in their life, and with skills that they can use to assist them on continuing to make positive changes and choices in life.
