The Yes Camp Fundraiser (The Yes)

Category: Fundraisers and Volunteer
Dates: June 18, 2014 - June 18, 2014

The YES is a charitable society operating in the province of BC. The YES runs leadership and self-development based summer camps and school programs focused on building communities of care and respect. Participants take part in skill building workshops that emphasize Self-Awareness, Co-operation, Communication and Leadership.

For many teens, The YES is the first time that they are able to participate in a community of peers that is entirely positive and supportive. It is for this reason that The YES program changes lives. Teens who come through the program leave with better friends than they have at home, they leave knowing themselves better, and with bigger and brighter dreams and ideas for what they want to do in the world. The YES helps teens build resiliency and self-esteem.

Here’s what one participant from summer 2013 had to say about their experience:

“The YES Camp is the best place on Earth. If everyone could attend this camp, the world would be a much happier place. Nowhere else can a person feel so accepted and cared for by a community” - Austin Phillips, Powell River, B.C.

On the last day of camp, participants have a hard time leaving. It’s hard to leave such a tight-knit community. After they’ve gone, we often get reports back from parents, describing the change they’ve witnessed in their child. Here’s what one parent had to say:

“The YES was the best thing that has happened to my daughter and I have no doubt that the skills she has learned there will continue to help foster her into a pretty terrific human being for a long time to come…So, from the bottom of my heart…thank you to THE YES!” - Heather, B.C. Parent

In order to expand and develop our youth leadership programs and to increase funds available for camp participant sponsorships, we are putting on a fundraiser on June 18th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at The Vancouver Heritage Hall.

YES campers and volunteer staff members will come together to offer an entertaining evening complete with a talent show, story-telling, speeches, and many opportunities to answer questions and share experiences from The YES Camp program.

There will also be an opportunity to bid on items and gift certificates during the silent auction. Tasty refreshments will be served. Please note that the dress code is casual.

Tickets are $25 (or $12 for current camp participants)

We are also accepting donations through our Canada Helps account which can be located on our website at www.theyes.ca/donations

Pet Valu Virtual Walk for Dog Guides (Dog Guides Canada)

Category: Fundraisers and Volunteer
Dates: January 30, 2000 - January 30, 2000

This year, we may not be able to walk together in person but we can still make an impact by coming together for Dog Guides. Register, fundraise and log those kilometers so that together, we can walk across Canada to create awareness about Dog guides and fundraise to assist Lions Foundation of Canada in providing life-changing Dog Guides to Canadians with disabilities.

Our Goal? To “walk” the length of Canada- 5,514 km! Our National virtual Walk Date is Sunday, May 30th 2021. We will start off in Canada’s most easterly point, Cape Spear in Newfoundland and cross the finish line in Mt. St. Elias in Yukon. You can participate by connecting your Fitbit device, downloading the Strava or Map My Fitness App or manually logging the distance you travel.

Everytime you get out and active- whether you go for a walk or run, grab your bike to go for a ride, go on a wheelchair accessible trail or dance around your living room- we can work together to achieve our goal.

By participating in the Walk, you can help provide life-changing Dog Guides to Canadians with disabilities. For more information, to find a Walk and register or to make a donation, please visit www.walkfordogguides.com
