Take A Hike Program

The Take a Hike program is a unique program made possible by a partnership between the Take a Hike Youth at Risk Foundation and the Vancouver Board of Education. The program is based at John Oliver Secondary School and focuses on at-risk youth aged 15-19, grades 10-12. The purpose of the program is to assist students who have been unable to achieve success in mainstream classes to develop the positive behaviours and attributes they need to become healthy, productive citizens. It is a three year program drawing on the principles of experiential learning – that students learn and grow best through first hand experience, and that there is a need for balance between academic requirements and adventure-based activities.
