We’re a free literacy tutoring program backed by a mission to help children develop lifelong literacy skills. ONE TO ONE’s program is free to all parents and schools and is available to any elementary school student whose teacher believes they need a reading-skills boost. Each student meets two to four times a week with a ONE TO ONE volunteer tutor. For 30 minutes at a time, they read in an environment where it is okay to take risks, make mistakes, and learn at their own pace.
As a result of globalization and educational research, the “image of a child” has changed from that of an empty vessel or thirsty sponge to that of a “competent and unique individual” bringing her own strengths and learning competencies to the table. This in turn has brought about a shift from theories of learning that support the top-down transfer of select information to theories that support the co-construction of knowledge in the classroom and beyond. We believe literature is the best conduit with which to construct such knowledge.
This shift is reflected in the philosophical base of all programs offered at the Lyceum.
At the Lyceum we choose to concentrate on the perceptual dimension of learning in an effort to challenge binary thinking and encourage exploration of “possibilities.” Nurturing a lens through which to view personal, local, and global interactions helps children develop guiding principles when approaching problematic situations inherent in a diverse society.
Our program is called BLUSH: Bold Learning for Understanding Sexual Health, run by Vancouver Coastal Health. Our team of Youth Educators (age 17-23) deliver workshops on Sexual Health, Healthy Relationships, and Media Literacy to high school students across Vancouver and Richmond.
Learning is a lifelong journey with challenges and difficulties, during which we grow and gain confidence. In the GRIT learning hub, we provide professional, passionate academic support in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics). Our educational support ranges from Grade 1 through Grade 12 in an encouraging and highly supportive environment.
We also incorporate the GRIT spirit in our education method, utilizing passion and perseverance to educate students to achieve their long-term success throughout their lives. Our curriculum encourages students to take thoughtful risks, engage in experimental learning, problem-solve, and embrace teamwork for inspirational support. Our focus and devotion to education prepare students for the confidence and abilities to meet and exceed any educational challenges.
The Goh Ballet Vancouver Society hosts and presents dance productions for emerging performing artists as well as nurtures and cultivates artistic achievements when students transition to professional status. The Society enlists community support for scholarship, bursaries and public education programs.
Annual fundraising events are held for Scholarship Funds, Performance Productions and Artistic Development Projects.
A coding camp started by Timila, a high school student in BC, seeking to spread her knowledge of coding and programming to anyone and everyone, but specifically targeted at middle school level students.
quaranTEEN Learning is a free online tutor/mentorship service available to all B.C. students currently in grades 4 - 7. Our team is completely made up of youth volunteers who are passionate towards providing students in B.C. a source of learning and mentorship during the school closures.
Our mission is to help provide another source of learning for students, as well as a connection in the community to help foster solidarity during these uncertain times. We hope to achieve this by setting up free online tutoring and mentorship sessions to provide a space where students can talk to other youths. During this period of self-isolation, we believe that collaboration and communication are essential to help boost morale, as well as to help spread knowledge and ideas.
We envision an active, relevant and supportive network that empowers youth across Canada to become responsible and driven leaders who are at the forefront of making a social difference.
EDU Beyond is a non-profit online tutoring initiative with the goal of minimizing educational disparity for K-12 students through an internationally connected network of learners.
We believe that education has become an increasingly pressing matter, especially considering the limiting effects of COVID-19 on student-tutor interactions. Students who have had past difficulties in a regular school setting may face even harsher setbacks due to the quarantine environment.
With that in mind, we at EDU Beyond saw the need to create an accessible, free, and more personalized platform for students to voice their academic concerns, providing learners with an easy way to supplement the presently rigid online school system while giving tutors volunteering opportunities to give back to their younger peers.
We are a grassroots member-led non-profit, and we offer free or by donation yoga classes and a subsidized Yoga Teacher Training. We believe that yoga and every healing modality must be available to everyone. Period.
DURING COVID WE ARE ALLOWING ALL STUDENTS TO USE OUR STORE FOR SEWING, UPCYCLING, AND MORE.
Sea Smart is a Vancouver-based charity that delivers online programs, school workshops, after school programs, summer camps, shoreline clean-ups and corporate programs. Our fun hands-on programs get people excited about our oceans and empowers them to make the world a better place.

In 4 years, Sea Smart has:
- Educated and empowered almost 500,000 youth across the world to become ocean heroes through fun, hands-on games and activities
- Provided free online educator resources on ocean and freshwater plastic pollution to over 54,500 students in 17 countries.
- Designed and launched an Oceans Plastics Education Kit that reached over 387,000 students in over 20 countries.
