Workshop Presenter – HIV 101

Brief Description/Purpose
  • To present HIV Education Workshops to primarily and secondary students (typically grade 10, 11, 12).
  • Presentations also given to other groups in the community when requested.
Primary Responsibilities or Tasks
  • Contact Secondary Schools to promote the program and relationship management
  • Coordinate scheduling for presentations
  • Coordinate with additional/alternate presenters when/if required
  • Present HIV/AIDS information in a factual, age, and education appropriate level of understanding
  • Researching and including accurate, current, and updated information

Required Qualifications




-Qualities or attitudes

  • A good understanding of HIV/AIDS
  • Comfortable speaking in front of large groups
  • Ability to liaison with others
  • Reliable and professional
  • Personal “Lived Experience” an asset, but not essential.
  • Second language (Mandarin or Cantonese) not required but would be an asset
Time Commitment
  • Approx. 20 hours per month
  • After successful completion of this role, may be eligible for other positions
  • A sense of pride and accomplishment in working with youth to assist in a better understanding and reduce the stigma of HIV/AIDS.
  • Remuneration discussed in interview
  • HIV 101 workshop providing information on HIV/AIDS
  • Specific orientation designed for the role of HIV101 Presenter

  • A keen and observant ability to appropriately handle unexpected situations with patience and understanding
  • Confidence and age appropriate behaviour when interacting with youth
Boundaries of the Position
  • Respect for each individual student and school staff
  • Respect for differing views, including difficult and confrontation ones
  • Respectful and appropriate level of behaviour and understanding when interacting with youth
  • Primarily unsupervised presentation
  • Regular (weekly/monthly) check-ins with Administrative Staff and Board of Directors
  • To-way evaluations at 5, 10, and 15 presentations
  • Debrief with Office Manager
  • Additional evaluations may be performed at the Presenter’s or the Supervisor’s request

  • Signed confidentiality agreement
  • Other appropriate documents and policies as they are developed
Success Measures
  • Number of presentations per month
  • Number of participants
  • Required completed evaluation forms per presentation
  • Additional feedback from host

  • Criminal record check (the presence of a criminal record does not necessarily preclude selection)
Risk Assessment
  • Confidence and comfortability in being a visible representative for the HIV/AIDS community.
