Through fun activity-based play, volunteers provide youth with the knowledge to make informed decisions about a range of healthy lifestyle practices. Groups meet once weekly for 90 minute sessions during weekday afternoons at schools/community centres and engage in life skills, communication, and social-emotional discussions to encourage healthy life- long habits. The program is led by 2-3 mentors to a group of Littles and runs once a season for 8 to 10 weeks. Our Group Mentors are • Male, trans, and gender diverse individuals who are 18+. • Reliable, consistent, dedicated, and respectful of others. • Available to meet once weekly for 90-minute sessions from Monday to Friday between 2:30pm and 4:30pm. Our Game On! volunteers are asked to enroll in a minimum of two 8 week terms as it's the best way to experience this fun program. Our Group Mentees are • Boys, trans, and gender diverse children and youth in grades 4 to 7. • Youth who could benefit from building self-confidence and learning healthy lifestyle choices. Our In-School Mentoring Program pairs you with one elementary school student who you share common interests with. Matches spend one-hour once per week together on school grounds doing non-academic activities such as playing sports, games, creating art or just hanging out at the playground. Our matches are paired for the duration, or remainder, of the academic school-year. Our Big Buddies are • Adults aged 18+, inclusive of male, female, trans, and gender diverse individuals. • Mentors who Little Buddies can talk to, learn from, and share experiences with. • Available 1 hour per week during school hours (weekdays between 10am and 3pm). Our Little Buddies are • Students grade 1 to 7 nominated by teachers, staff or by themselves. • Children who could use a bit of extra 1-on-1 attention, need to build confidence, or may have trouble connecting with peers. It’s that time of year again—LunarFest is returning, and so is our School Outreach program! Storytellers and leaders, we want you! LunarFest is looking for fun and engaging leaders for our School Outreach project. From February 17 – 19, we will be bringing students (grade 4-7) to Granville Island. Students will participate in workshops that include storytelling related to the Year of the Horse and craft-making. In the spirit of our festival, we are using storytelling, arts, and culture to connect with students in a celebration of the Lunar New Year like no other. Do you have experience with public speaking? Are you interested in arts and crafts? Be a School Outreach Activity Leader for a day with LunarFest! Dates: February 17 – 19 Time: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm Locations: Ocean Artworks (Granville Island) Available positions: 1. School Outreach Activity Leader Tasks and Responsibilities: Learn about LunarFest programs prior to the festival Lead and emcee the storytelling and crafts sessions onsite Coordinate with staff and teachers onsite according to event schedule Able to take charge and work independently 2. What you’ll be doingAs a volunteer, you’ll support and lead a range of programs designed to promote safety in Mount Pleasant:Foot and Bike Patrols: Walk or cycle through the community, engaging with residents, checking in on areas of concern, offering aid such as water, snacks, or socks to those in need, picking up discarded needles or debris, and helping create a welcoming public space.Community Cleanups: Help keep Mount Pleasant clean and welcoming through regular garbage and litter removal initiatives.Information & Referrals: Provide support and guidance to residents and visitors seeking local resources or services.Community Outreach: Represent the MPCPC at public events, fairs, and educational workshops.Road Safety: Participate in pedestrian and road safety campaigns, including speed watch, cell watch, and school safety programs.
