Founded in 1982, The Greater Vancouver International Film Festival Society is a not-for-profit cultural organization that operates the internationally acclaimed Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF), the annual VIFF Industry Conference and the year-round programming of the Vancity Theatre at the Vancouver International Film Centre. Mandate The Greater Vancouver International Film Festival Society (“Society”) is a not-for-profit cultural society whose mandate is to: 1.Encourage understanding of the world’s cultures through the art of cinema, to foster the art of cinema, to facilitate the meeting in British Columbia of cinema professionals from around the world, and to stimulate the motion picture industry in British Columbia. 2.Operate an annual Vancouver International Film Festival, a public celebration bringing the best in contemporary Canadian and international cinema and retrospective programs to British Columbia. 3.Operate the Vancouver International Film Centre and Vancity Theatre, providing the public and film community with an excellent facility for the appreciation of cinema and related art forms throughout the year. Vancouver International Film Festival Both in terms of admissions and number of films screened (144,000 and 349 respectively in 2014) VIFF is among the five largest film festivals in North America. We screen films from more than 70 countries on nine screens, including the pick of the world’s top film fests and many undiscovered gems. Three main programming platforms make our festival unique: we screen one of the largest selections of East Asian films outside of that region, we are one of the biggest showcases of Canadian film in the world and we have a large and vibrant nonfiction program. Attracting a large, attentive and enthusiastic audience the festival remains accessible, friendly and culturally diverse. As the critics say, VIFF is very much a festival “designed for the benefit of people who love films and people who make them.”

Cool North Shore is a local non-profit society that has been working to support citizens from Deep Cove to Lions Bay to take action on climate change and sustainability since 2007. Our main programs are Cool Drinks, a bi-monthly speaker series, and Cool Neighbourhoods, a community driven initiative focused on helping residents decrease energy consumption and increase their neighborhood’s resiliency and sustainability.

Fraser Riverkeeper is a non-profit registered Canadian charity, and a licensed member of the international Waterkeeper Alliance. We are dedicated to the protection and restoration of the Fraser River and its watershed— and our encompassing mission is to ensure the right of all citizens to safely swim, drink, and fish in BC waters. Fraser Riverkeeper is a founding partner of the National Water Centre.

North Shore Volunteers for Seniors is a non-profit Society, founded in 1961, dedicated to promoting independence and well-being of seniors. We offer diverse and accessible programs to seniors at our Centre located in West Vancouver. We match qualified volunteers with seniors living independently in their homes or care facilities.

APPLAUSE! Musicals Society, a registered non-profit charity, has been sharing the excitement and passion of great show tunes through a series of entertaining, historical and educational concerts & revues since 1997. Our year round programming includes a series of rare, shelved & forgotten musicals in concert, two revue series: musicals 101 & show tunes year by year, cabarets and the presentation of an annual awards celebration called the OVATION Awards (January). An incorporated, non-profit, charitable society, APPLAUSE! is run by volunteers and presently operates solely on donations & ticket revenue.

We are 4,000 volunteers and staff working together with more than 115,000 people across the Lower Mainland who believe in helping children and families reach their full potential. A COMMUNITY-BASED APPROACH TO IMPROVING MATERNAL AND INFANT WELLBEING MIH Can is working with communities to implement several evidence-based strategies for improving maternal and infant wellbeing. These strategies include supporting Odisha’s healthcare professionals and mothers in learning about how to best care for their premature babies, and developing a lifesaving, costeffective invention: a baby-warming blanket for pre-term or low birth-weight babies at risk of hypothermia. Hypothermia is a “top killer” for newborn babies—especially in remote, mountainous regions like Odisha. Keeping babies warm, then, is critical to reducing infant mortality rates in India. By training women’s groups to manufacture the blankets, this strategy will not only save the lives of babies at risk of hypothermia, but support economic development in low-income areas. This work will be shared by publishing academic papers and hiring a local filmmaker to document the project. Ultimately, MIH Can’s vision is to plant the seeds for a sustainable, long-term initiative that can be adopted by the local government to improve infant and maternal health across the country. IMPACT MIH Can estimates that over five years, these interventions will prevent the deaths of 5,232 children in Odisha and help thousands more children get a healthy start at life. Imagine the impact of five thousand more children celebrating birthdays and five thousand less families grieving the loss of their children. Imagine what five thousand more young people, healthy and ready to explore everything human possibility has to offer, can do not only for their communities and countries, but for the global community as well.

Carousel Theatre for Young People provides playful, exceptional and accessible theatrical experiences that inspire, involve and educate. Each season approximately 40 000 young people and their families benefit from CTYP’s programming. At Carousel Theatre for Young People we believe that the arts, and specifically theatre, plays a vital role in a young person’s development. It takes a village to raise a child. CTYP is an intrinsic part of that village.
