In August 2007 we started the "Gaby Davis Foundation" in memory of our daughter Gabrielle Davis who lost her battle with childhood cancer in March 2007. Her brave fight against cancer and her thoughtfulness towards other children with cancer inspired us to help other families fighting this terrible beast. The Gaby Davis Foundation seeks to improve a child's quality of life during cancer treatment by providing financial aid and support to children with cancer and their families at BC Children's Hospital, Surrey Memorial Hospital and Canuck Place. We believe that children with cancer will receive the most consistent medical care when their parents can focus on them, rather than the additional burdens caused by a cancer diagnosis.
AIDS Vancouver exists to alleviate individual and collective vulnerability to HIV and AIDS through support, public education and community based research.
The Salvation Army Vancouver Community & Family Services has been serving individuals and families in Vancouver and Burnaby for more than 40 years. Our mandate is to provide services to members of the community, children and families facing serious life challenges such as poverty, isolation, abuse, neglect, homelessness, addiction, hunger and mental illness. We strive to do this with a continuum of care model focusing on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of our clients. Through our programs and services we aim to support the whole person and entire communities.
Craftworks purpose is to support adults living with physical disabilities and/or mental illness, by developing a vibrant community through skills development and socialization; serving as a catalyst to decrease isolation, to empower and to engage individuals; and facilitating access to earnings opportunities. Craftworks supports participants who are unable to maintain traditional employment by providing flexible training opportunities and indefinite employment in a stigma-free environment - paying fair wages for pieces completed. Craftworks offers a hybrid program that marries developmental opportunities with employment supports that engenders feelings of belonging and satisfaction of contributing to household income.
Parkgate Community Services Society (PCSS) is a registered not-for-profit charitable society that has been in operation since 1983. PCSS provides community based programs and services out of Parkgate Community Centre, the Seymour Youth Centre, and other satellite locations. PCSS is responsible for delivering community programs and services for children, youth, families and seniors through the Community Centre.
VoteNowBC is a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization that provides an online information and discussion platform for BC voters. Our goal is to easily provide BC voters with the information and tools they need to make an informed vote during municipal and provincial elections. We understand the challenges of staying politically informed because we know that British Columbians have many commitments such as work, family and other day-to-day commitments. VoteNowBC believes that everyone has a right to be politically informed and we aim to eliminate these barriers in order to ensure that everyone can vote for a candidate that best represents their interests.
Helping Spirit Lodge Society provides excellent service to Women and Children fleeing violence. Women access our Transition House, Second Stage Programming and Subsidized housing units, Journey Home - to assist the homeless population seek housing, Employment Resources as well as our Wellness Centre. To Support women moving through trauma we provide Therapeutic Interventions including Counselling, Acupuncture and Massage therapy.
The BC Centre for Ability provides community-based services that enhance the quality of life for children, youth and adults with disabilities and their families in ways that facilitate and build competencies and foster inclusion in all aspects of life
We support youth discover their unique gifts and an ability to trust themselves deeply enough to have the kind of self-reliance that will bring out the best of who they are. We empower youth to lead authentic and connected lives, through modern rights of passage, self-discovery and creativity.
The Cerebral Palsy Association of British Columbia was started in 1954 by a group of parents who wanted to assist their children living with cerebral palsy to reach their maximum potential within society. Today we are an independent charitable organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We provide support, education, and information throughout BC. Our mission is:
-To raise awareness of cerebral palsy in the community
-To assist those living with cerebral palsy to reach their maximum potential
-To work to see those living with cerebral palsy realize their place as equals in a diverse society
We will accomplish this mission through:
-advocacy
-encouraging networking
-educating members of the public about cerebral palsy
-governing relations activities
-implementing programs for individuals with cerebral palsy
Our 12 neighbourhood Clubs give our kids a place to be amazing, safe, and have fun! We also provide substance-abuse services and support to some of the most vulnerable youth in our community. We offer counselling and employment services for youth and families. We offer programs for families with new babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers, and parents of teens. And we offer a summer wilderness camping adventure, Camp Potlatch, which is second to none.
Annually, we serve over 12,500 children, youth, and families – and no one is ever turned away due to an inability to pay. No one.
ProChoices is a by-donation Narrative Therapy clinic that runs on a feminist, social-profit model, located in unceded xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Tsleil-Waututh, and Skwxwú7mesh Territory, Vancouver B.C.
ProChoices has grown out of the needs expressed by our communities. With their ongoing support, our clinic has survived its first year sponsored entirely by client donations, member contributions, our certificate program proceeds, the support of Hilda Nanning Counselling, and the passionate work of our team of therapists.
Fuelled by our feminisms, ProChoices offers accessible, quality therapy to individuals and communities of diverse genders, sexual orientations, socioeconomic backgrounds, and life experiences. We understand affordable therapy to be social justice activism as well as a response to the individualist, euro-centric/hegemonic, capitalist patriarchy we live in.
ProChoices credits the clients as the experts of their own experience and as the authority on what constitutes meaningful change in their lives. We do not prescribe or pathologize, and instead invite a co-research experience for our clients. This co-research process opens up alternative ways of experiencing, responding, and resolving the challenges and problems that might stand in the way of our clients’ well-being.
