Vancouver Food Runners prevents good food from going to waste by redirecting it to nonprofit organizations that support people facing food insecurity across Metro Vancouver. Using our simple app and a network of volunteer drivers—called Food Rescue Heroes—we match surplus food from local businesses like bakeries, grocers, and cafes to community partners.We’re currently seeking passionate volunteers to join our team. ASK Friendship Society is a Vancouver based nonprofit organization providing Adult Day Programs for older adults. Our programs offer structured out-of-home activities, social engagement, health monitoring, and essential respite support for family caregivers.  The Society has maintained a longstanding partnership with the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority and has served the community for nearly five decades. In 2023, the Society relocated to a newly built facility on the south side of Vancouver, enhancing our ability to deliver high quality programs in a modern and accessible environment.  The work of ASK Friendship Society is grounded in the enduring values of our founders: compassion, respect, honesty, integrity, and accountability to the individuals we serve and to the broader community.  We are currently seeking experienced and committed leaders to join our Board of Directors.  Accountability The Board of Directors is collectively accountable to the community, funders, and other stakeholders. Volunteer Board Directors are elected to a two-year term and play a vital role in providing strategic direction, ensuring sound governance, and supporting the long-term sustainability and impact of the Society.  Key Responsibilities Stay fully informed on the Society’s programs, operations, and strategic priorities Attend and contribute to monthly Board and committee meetings, the Annual General Meeting and other ad hoc gatherings Actively participate in governance, financial, human resources, business development, and fundraising discussions and decisions Maintain awareness of community issues, trends, and needs relevant to the Society’s mission and objectives Collaborate constructively with fellow Directors and support collective Board decisions Demonstrate loyalty, integrity, and fiduciary responsibility in all Board activities Ensure that financial statements, reports, and disclosures accurately reflect the organization’s financial position and operating results Ensure compliance with the Society’s by-laws, code of conduct, and Board policies Support and participate in fundraising, advocacy, and community engagement activities as appropriate Contribute to the recruitment, orientation, and mentorship of new Board members  Qualifications and Experience At this time, the Board is particularly interested in candidates with professional or lived experience in one or more of the following areas:  Human resources, compensation experience and CHRP designation is preferred Fundraising or resource development Medical or healthcare services Caring for or supporting aging adults Ability to represent and reflect the community served by the Society Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills Prior Board of Directors experience is an asset  Commitment This is a volunteer position requiring regular attendance at meetings, active engagement, and clear communication in Board and committee work.  Time commitment is approximately 2-6 hours per month and will vary based on the needs of the Society.  How to Apply If you are interested in joining our Board of Directors, please submit a letter outlining your interest and a current résumé to caring@askcentre.ca by February 1, 2026  For more information about ASK Friendship Society, please visit www.askcentre.ca.

What you’ll be doingAs a volunteer, you’ll support and lead a range of programs designed to promote safety in Mount Pleasant:Foot and Bike Patrols: Walk or cycle through the community, engaging with residents, checking in on areas of concern, offering aid such as water, snacks, or socks to those in need, picking up discarded needles or debris, and helping create a welcoming public space.Community Cleanups: Help keep Mount Pleasant clean and welcoming through regular garbage and litter removal initiatives.Information & Referrals: Provide support and guidance to residents and visitors seeking local resources or services.Community Outreach: Represent the MPCPC at public events, fairs, and educational workshops.Road Safety: Participate in pedestrian and road safety campaigns, including speed watch, cell watch, and school safety programs. Why Volunteer With Us?The MPCPC is a volunteer-led, non-profit organization.By volunteering with us, you’ll gain valuable, hands-on experience in community safety and social services. You’ll also receive training from MPCPC staff and partner organizations such as the Vancouver Police Department and ICBC. Volunteers have opportunities for leadership development and can build a strong foundation for future careers in law enforcement, social work, or community services.
